On tap @ Iron Hill Phoenixville on 6/17/12. Served in a tulip glass. This is an Imperial Witbier brewed with 60 lbs of Oregon cherries.

Pours a deep dark ruby in the glass, topped with a ½ finger of off-white head. This retains with some thin foamy ringing, leaving back sudsy lacing that quickly slides down the sides. The aroma is full on ripe cherry flavor, backed by extra notes of softer fruit, spice, and then a firm malt presence on the edges. This has a nice blend of cherry and Whitbier flavors to it and seems to be right what they were shooting for.

The taste is very similar to the nose, with loads of tart cherry flavor that while prominent doesn’t totally cover up the Witbier notes of orange zest, crisp wheat, and spices that linger into a dry finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a steady sharpness on the tongue and then a lively crispness that fills out the back of the mouth. The higher ABV here gives this a little warmth but it doesn’t inhibit the overall accessibility of this too much.

Once this warmed up and the flavors started to balance and level out, this ended up being quite nice, as the cherry flavor, while strong, was still very complimentary to those base Whitbier flavors. The spice and cherry in particular here really matched up well and I’d love to see this one return again.
