On tap @ Iron Hill Chestnut Hill on 10/7/12. Served in a pint glass.
Pours a clear gold, topped with a finger of sudsy bright-white head. This retains with a thin foaminess that skims the surface, leaving back sudsy spotty lacing that slowly drips down the sides of the glass. The aroma smells of earthy bitter hops and a sweet combination of bread of corn. The corn is very strong here. A light floral character sits on the edges and gives this a little airiness in the nose.
The taste is the same, with a mix of raw earthy hops, grainy dough and sweet corn. Hops linger in a dry finish with a bitter pithiness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp feeling on the tongue, then spreading out into a creamier presence in the back of the mouth. This has a good overall feel to it that helps with the flavors.
I get what they were going for with this but it just wasn’t for me. Too much corn flavor and the hops themselves had too much of a raw bitterness to them that I couldn’t get into. This one was sadly a miss for me.
