Served in a moustachioed shaker pint glass.
Thanks to jyoung for this bottle!
This stuff is a 100% Brett-fermented porter aged in a variety of barrels, including rum, bourbon, tawny port, ruby port, and, this version, sherry. It pours a deep black-brown topped by a finger of sandy tan foam. The nose comprises Amontillado sherry, pretzel, and a heavy dose of sour Brett funk. So far, things are working. The taste is more Brett than anything, with the orange-y funk overriding any potential sense of porter-ness. That said, a touch of wine barrel (it could be any wine this time, really) does make it through the haze. This would all be fine and dandy, but the Brett doesn't seem to have matured all that well (or, to put it a different way, it doesn't really taste all that good here). The body is a light-leaning medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a fluid feel. Overall, though a good-sounding idea, this beer just turned out to be weird. It's too thin for its own good, and the Brett just makes sure not much else is detectable. Shame, really, 'cause I think a sherry barrel-aged porter sounds pretty cool...
