Draft offering at the Lancaster location served in a tulip. The brew appears black in color with a rich finger of khaki head. Some brown clarity is noted around the edges when held to the light. Some spots of lace stick to the glass as the cap fades.
The aroma is roasty smelling like a combination of highly kilned grain first then it blends to notes if cocoa and coffee. There is some earthen elements and a faint saison familiarity about this towards the back as it warms up get gets progressively dryer and earthy smelling.
The tastes includes notes pf cocoa and earth. A bit of coffee and faint lemony fruit aspect lingers into the aftertaste. This is a unique arrangement of character in this brew. While the roast is pleasant, it clashes a bit with the charcter that the yeast tries to impart. The earthen and roast elements work well but some minerals and light spice/lemony fruit throws a wrench into the gears.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest to light level of carbonation. There is a slight alcohol warmth felt after the swallow but otherwise that 9+ % alcohol is well masked. I think the brewers are on to something here and they are close to really making this work. I wouldnt mind having this again if the opportunity presents itself.

A black saison brewed with pink peppercorns to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the north Museum.
a: This was all but black in color. It was served to me with a medium sized khaki colored head.
s: Fairly subdued overall, I found some roasted coffee with hints of chocolate, along with some Belgian yeasty esters.
t: Outshined the aroma by far. This was all Imperial Stout up front. I actually thought the bartender may have tapped the wrong beer. But after the huge flavors of roasty cocoa, sure enough, there was the distinctly funky and peppery saison yeastiness.
m: Perhaps not as light as I'd like to saison to be, but this was 9.4 percent ABV after all.
o: I would call this more stout than saison. The roastiness was far more prominent then the Belgian qualities and I couldn't necessarily discern any pepper pink or otherwise. Overall though, I really enjoyed this one. Strange but damn tasty.
