8oz pour earlier today reviewed from notes.
A - Pours a rich, deep mahogany brown, totally opaque, with a nice cascade from the nitrogen. A small cream colored head sticks around the whole way through and leaves nice lines of creamy lace after each sip.
S - Definite bourbon character in the nose compliments an abundance of sweet, dark fruits; fig, raisin, and plum. Bready caramel malts and slight toffee are also noticeable. Smells great.
T - The sweet dark fruits intermingle nicely with pumpernickel bread in the front of the mouth, segueing into some caramel and toffee flavors, and big bourbon notes that are present but not overpowering. The barrel aging provides added depth with sweet tobacco, leather, vanilla, and slight oaky tannins. The beer comes close to becoming a bit too sweet, but the bourbon cuts it perfectly. Each sip leaves me wanting another.
M - Medium bodied and very creamy from the nitro. Slight warming alcohol in the throat in the finish, but you don't taste the alcohol too much for the 10%abv. Silky smooth.
O - I was really impressed with this one. My girl suggested we stop there for a drink today, and I'm damn glad she did. One of the smoothest BBA beers I've ever had, let alone a quad. Really solid base quad characteristics with a pretty much perfect amount of bourbon flavor. And it worked perfectly on nitro-tap, giving a creamy mouthfeel that couldn't have been better. Just a great beer all around. Get it while it's hot, because I doubt this will last long.
Serving type: nitro-tap
