750 ml corked & caged bottle, purchased from Iron Hill West Chester, $29.95. Brewed in collaboration with Ithaca.
A: Deep dark brown on the pour, dense black looking body in the glass. A thin tan colored head formed initially but quickly settled out into a thin ring.
S: Plenty of chocolate, molasses, and of course bourbon. The funky brett character is here too, giving off a slight tartness to the nose.
T: Lots of brett and tartness up-front, with all the bourbon notes coming in on the back end for me. Roasted malts, some coffee bitterness and semi-sweet bourbon rounds it out.
M: Really nice carbonation level for the style. Not overly carbonated, certainly soft with some prickly bubbles on the palate.
Quite a tasty go for a Wild Ale brewed in this manner. There isn't too many of them around, but I really did like the bourbon barrel component of this one. That said, the $30 price tag is really, really steep for this.
