Bayern Amber is the beer that started it all in 1987. The beer that put Bayern on the map and had customers asking for more. This Marzen style beer has the rich malt flavor you look for in traditional German beers with a smooth balance of hops on the end.

12 ounce bottle, no dating.
Pours a clear copper with a good head of foam, excellent lacing.
Caramel malt, grain, light hoppy aromas.
The taste is sweet up front with some toasted malt, bit of a hop bite in the finish. Pretty balanced and enjoyable as it has a good mouthfeel.

This is, in my opinion, the perfect beer's beer. There's nothing wild here. There are no mystical hops pulled from an Egyptian tomb, and no bold or unorthodox ingredients. It is just a simple, no frills amber lager. But that's why it's perfect. It's just hoppy enough that the hops don't overpower the malt. It's just full enough to be tasty, but still refreshing. It's just flavorful enough to enjoy without being overwhelmed. It's crisp, like an amber Fabergé egg. And sometimes, when you aren't feeling an IPA that tastes like pine needle tea, or a heavy stout thick as black oatmeal, this can be the ideal. Just a pure, clean, crisp amber.

Draft, from the tap room. Nice color, smell is good, taste is very flavorful, easy feel. A very good neutral beer, not overly hoppy or bitter, yet tastey. An easy drinking beer. Good, solid, enjoyable beer.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a rather medium amber color with a small fizzy looking head of white foam. The head fades almost instantly after pouring leaving just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is mostly a mix of a slightly grainy and bready smell mixed with some hints of caramel and a bit of a fruity aroma of apple and pear.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and rather sweeter caramel taste with a little bit a grainy flavor. The grainy flavor is very light throughout, just gaining a bit of intensity toward the end of the flavor. The caramel is later joined by some light fruit notes of green apple and pear. A little bit of grass comes to the tongue at the very end rounding out the taste and leaving a somewhat sour and sweet bready flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is moderate in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather standard. Overall it is OK for the flavors as it keeps it drinkable all while supporting the flavors to a decent extent.
Overall – Just a rather standard amber at best. A little too sour due to the green apple with not enough light roasted flavor to really be a good amber. Decent to drink, but nothing special.
