Poured from a 12oz standard pressure-cap bottle into a conic pint glass in high elevation Kalispell, Mont. Reviewed live.

A- Quarter-finger head with low retention. Brown-orange color with medium clarity. No lacing. Fairly unimpressive beer.

S- Apples are the dominant thing in the aroma. Crisp apples, slightly grassy, some noble hops. Quite a lovely aroma actually.

T- Crisp, refreshing. Apples, light-bodied malts, and some strong noble hops.

M- Medium bodied, smooth and wet. Nice feel.

O- Personally, I quite enjoyed this beer. I'll review it on that principle. An important caveat is that I believe it is a pretty poor example of a Helles beer or Maibock.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a medium bronze amber with a half finger off-white head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, estery dried fruit, hints of grassy hops. Flavor is caramel malt with light biscuity elements, toffee, light grassy hops, tapering off to a somewhat drier, earthier caramel malt finish with light grassy hops. Medium bodied. A satisfactory maibock that starts out with some nice caramel malt, but seems both a bit too sweet at first and too dry and attenuated in the finish. Although not a great maibock, a pleasant malty ale that kind of grew on me as I finished the glass. Seems a little harshly reviewed here for an ale with no real flaws.

Poured this 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Maibock poured an orange color, slightly hazy. Produced a small white head, below average retention. Aroma consisted of malted grain, green apples and grassy hops.Medium bodied, there was a foundation of malted grain and grassy hops. Decent session beer not the greatest example of the style.

Served from a 12 ounce bottle into a standard pint glass. I like the nod to tradition exemplified by a picture on the label of a bighorn sheep with daisies in the foreground and cliffs in the background- I think maybe the Chinese Wall in Glacier Park. Freshness date of June 2013 (reviewed April 16).

Appearance: Golden amber, similar to a medium-dark honey in color, with hardly any head, even with an aggressive pour. A nice lingering lace though, with brief stickiness. The dissipating head produces little islets of foam. A fairly robust effervescence partially compensates for the lack of head and lace. After awhile, the head is reduced to forlorn specks around the rim of the glass.

Smell: My sense of smell is the least acute of all, but I can definitely smell the malt with some earthy hops in the background. A bit of citrus or perhaps a sort of herbal sourness is detectable.

Taste: Definitely a hop presence here (more noticeable in the aftertaste), but not overpowering by any means, as befits the style. A bit of citrus perhaps or a hint of sour apple or cherry. Not terribly complex but easy drinking.

Mouthfeel: Fairly thin- a bit more head might help here. I'm also noticing a general lack of the pleasant burpiness with the delicious aftertaste and aroma that I usually get from this brewery's products.

One good thing about Bayern beer is that it's a little less pricy than most micro beers in my area but still delivers a superior product. I wouldn't rate this particular beer as high as some others, but it's still highly drinkable and well worth the 7.50-8.50 a sixer that it usually goes for.

Appearance: Bayern Maibock pours a clear copper color with a finger of white head. Retention is not very good, and the lacing is very minimal.

Smell: Pale and biscuity malts show up the heaviest, with a bit of toffee, and noble hop character that smells pretty good but isn't overwhelming.

Taste: Biscuity malts on the front end along with toffee and caramel. Plenty of noble hops on the back end round it out pretty nicely.

Mouthfeel/Overall: This beer is light bodied with medium carbonation, and fairly smooth. Overall I liked this beer a lot better than I had anticipated. Pretty tasty and easy drinking, and not at all offensive.

Pours dark golden with minimal head. Immediately the fruity aroma gets you. It is curiously like cider. And then the malty scent of traditional german/bavarian wheat beers shows itself. Somewhat sweet tasting, little bit thick/syrupy, and strong taste of alcohol. It reminds me of a Czech bock I had not too long ago. This Maibock is very edgy when it should be smooth. The alcohol is overpowering and a stickiness is left on the lips. There is something to be said for this beer, I just don't know what that is. I've liked other Bayern offerings (such as their pilsner and dark hefe), but I won't be buying this one again.

Golden amber color for the body, off white head. Smells like sweet grain and cider, pepper and clove like a Belgian. Tastes sweet, some wheat pepper, more cider flavor. Not the best maybock. The sweetness keeps this from being a beer I want to finish and have another one of. Too bad I really like Bayern.

Appears a light brown/amber color with a small white head.

Smells slightly sweet, there are hints of raisons and caramel in the smell.

The taste is much like the smell with a strong fruity raisin taste. There is also a slight caramel malt taste. The body of the beer is medium and so is the carbonation.

The drinkability is just about average for the style.

Overall it has a nice flavor but is not amazing. I find it perhaps a bit too sweet. Worth trying though.

pours a crystal clear rich caramel building to a roan amber in the glass. mid-way through the pour, I realized head was going to be an issue... a vigorous second half of a pour yielded a measly half-finger head that foamed away pretty quickly. a bit of spotty lacing doesn't look too bad.

aroma is surprisingly, almost noxiously spicy sweet. If i didn't know better, I'd be expecting a spiced pumpkin ale. peppery, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and spicy hops: saaz and hallertauer are pretty apparent. not horrible. but the malt sweetness and overly spiced is a bit much.

spicy pepper up front, followed by sweet malt and maple syrup sweetness. A bit of hoppy sourness, and then some spicy herbal hops. Some neutral malt bitterness, more spicy pepper and clove, and more bitter and sour notes to finish it off. Disjointed and heavyhanded without the usual smoothness and gentle blending of most Maibocks. Seems a bit harsh and unfinished.

Mouthfeel is a bit thick, a bit syrupy, and a bit fizzly. carbonation pops a bit too much without really yielding any creaminess... and on the whole, it still feels a bit more sickly sweet and syrupy... not just the usual maibock sweetness/strength.

I really want to like everything Bayern makes... and I'm generally a fan of Maibocks. This one just doesn't really do it for me... and splitting half the bottle is almost a bit much. drinkability just doesn't hit right... it never really comes together cleanly and I'm just not feeling it.

Pours a mid gold color, with a light haze head on the thin side, but good. Taste is heavy in malt, and a little on the thin side, with a slight bitter aftertaste. Alcohol is not up front in this beer, well hidden. Not very good lacing. Drinkability is very good, could drink a few at a time.

All in all not a bad offering from Bayern.

12 oz bottle poured into my old Vandenheuvel Double Export stem glass, the Maibock is a clear, bubbly copper with a small white collar with very light skim.

Smell is sweet and thick, speciality malt and honey. Served at cellar temp, this got way to strong, a weird caramel, as it warmed.

Taste is more of the same. Nothings really off save for some diacetyl and a hint of sourness (which I didn't really care for here), but it's not very exciting either.

Mouthfeel is on the thicker, syrupy side.

Drinkability is average, as long as I stopped smelling it! I wasn't really in the mood for this, and the last few mai bocks have been better, but even on a good day, I can't see myself having more then a few of these. Tonight, it's one and done - probably for ever!
