Appearance is quite dark, almost a stout like appearance with nothing more than a tiny rim of head. Nose is unique and very malty. Notes of grape candy, wheat, and a hint of soy sauce and cocoa. Taste has fruity components up front with emphasis on grapes and maple syrup, this is followed by notes of carob and figs with a touch of balsamic vinegar on the finish. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick with low carbonation. Overall, this is a very unique and complex weizenbock, however the flavors just don't agree with me.

Ramstein Winter Wheat

Growler filled 12/27/12

Very dark brown, nearly black. Darkest wheat beer I've ever poured. Beige head is modest, but highly admirable for a growler. (4)

Aroma smells exactly like fresh banana bread: it's unmistakable. Some chocolate and molasses notes, too. (4)

The flavor is thick and rich. Banana bread once again, but this time more complex. The estery, ripe-fruit notes of the yeast are readily apparent. Intensely phenolic as well, with huge clove and nutmeg notes. Chocolate malts come through, along with a thick breadiness. Carob, treacle, spice cake. It's not that sweet, but there is something really cloying and borderline undrinkable about this beer. Mouthfeel is thick and dextrinous, yet utterly undercarbonated-- I won't judge too harshly since it's a growler pour. (3, 3)

This is a very unique wheat beer. There's something about it though-- perhaps the intense esters and phenols combined with the very high ABV and super-thick mouthfeel-- that renders it a bit undrinkable in my book. It's like banana bread motor oil. I wouldn't want more than 8oz, and I just poured myself .5L. It's no Aventinus, but it's an okay beer. (3)

A - Quite possibly the darkest weizenbock I ever seen. Barely any head at all maybe some opaque colored head that fizzes to particularly nothing.

S - Quite mild banana, clove and and maybe some chocolate. A very solid light smell is good on such a high octane beer.

T - Some roast and molasses surprised me beneath some mild ripe fruits and mild spicy clove. Wheat seems mild yet balanced.

M - Kind of watery actually. Has mild flavors and seems not is intense as others describe. Medium heavy at best.

Overall I am not sure if this is a older bottle (like last years) but it's notched at October and has some sediment at the base. Even if its old it drinks rather well.

Draft @ Barcade Jersey City.

The pour is dark brown in color with some reddish highlights and a small fluffy tan head that dissipates rather quickly.

Aromas begin with lightly roasted, chocolate-based malts, with notes of wheat, dark caramel, banana, cracked cloves and well-ripened dark fruits. Yeast esters emerge more as it warms.

The tastes begin with mildly sweet chocolate-coated roasted maltiness and a bit of dark caramel. Hints of spicy clove and sours wheat emerge as you continue to sample. The dark fruitiness and light banana emerge as it warms. The overall flavor profile picks up a bit more sweetness as you further sample.

The mouthfeel is medium to heavy bodied with medium carbonation. Velvety smooth and almost creamy on the palate. Finish is highlighted by a touch of roast and dried fruits with a smooth, mildly warming finish.

Overall this is the best American made Weizenbock I have ever had, surpassing the example from Thomas Hooker I had last year. The malt base is definitely darker and more chocolate-forward than the traditional German example, which allows the yeast esters to not strangle the flavor profile, which is a huge plus for me. Not a drop of detectable alcohol is detectable except in your belly with that slightly warming feeling. Wish they still bottled this because it is by far High Point's best beer. Glad I was finally able to sample this; highly recommended

On tap in pint glass from Tuscany Brewhouse

A- Dark Mahogany with great lacing. Thin head

S- Huge sweet fruit and dark malt aroma, Dark bread

T- Again huge ripe fruits, figs, dark bread malts very rich. Touch of spice clovey and maybe anise

M- Very smooth but thick creamy, roasted malted finish

ABV 9.5%. Creeps up nicely surprisingly does not drink like it is that high very warming
A winter winner!

A: choc. brown/ruby shimmer/cloudy, 2 finger khaki head,
solid lacing

S: intoxicating wheat, spiced bread aroma

T: sweet fig/date, mild clove, big bready malt/wheat,
nice hint of spice in the finish

M: med/heavy, smooth/chewy mouth

O: 1st experience with this brewey, POW,
what a gem! ABV is well hidden, sneaks
up on you. Will get again and highly recommend.
Great to see an outstanding beer in Jersey.
