Appearance: Pours a thick obsidian color with a tan head that quickly drops to a ringlet and island; leaves some scattered lacing
Smell: Strong coffee and chocolate aroma; slightly smokey
Taste: Starts out with a hot cocoa flavor that is joined, mid-palate, with some nice coffee bitterness that persists into the finish, as does the cocoa flavor as well as some vanilla; somewhat astringent and acidic at the end
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and surprisingly carbonated for a stout
Drinkability: Taste, but I would prefer less carbonation and a more straightforward stout experience

It's does taste like an organic stout, it's thin & watery in the mouthfeel with some dark chocolate in the finish. I'm not big on organic beers besides Samuel Smith & this stout is no exception. It's tasty it just need more of a stout body to accompany that taste anyways, cheers! B

First had poured from 12-oz. bottle, gift from brother, into faceted mug. My first beer from Bison, this beer is rather light in color and body for a stout, but nicely balanced between the roast malts and added cocoa.

Pours like black coffee, with almost zero head. What tiny bit of foam that is there though, does sort of lace the glass somehow. Weird. Aroma is nice, dark roast coffee and cocoa, as to be expected. Taste is dark roast malt with some coffee bitterness, not much in the way of chocolate, sweetness or cream. It's other words it is serviceable, but nothing special. Mouthfeel is extremely thin and surprisingly carbonated, considering how little you see when it is poured. All that being said the ABV is quite low for a stout, so the light body would make this a nice session beer for chatting over, in lieu of coffee.

Pours a dark brown, almost black, with a foamy tan head. It’s very malty with almost unrecognizable hops even for a stout. Has a bit of a burnt flavor with subtle chocolate in the background and a very dry finish. The mouth feel is kind of thin and watery for a stout despite the robust maltiness. The chocolate doesn’t come through as much as with many of the chocolate stouts that I’ve tried, despite it having a chocolate smell, and it also lacks the characteristic chocolate stout sweetness as well. It’s hard to tell that it’s a chocolate stout really. This is not a great stout. It is somewhat similar to the Firestone Walker Velvet Merlin that I recently had. There’s nothing overtly offensive about it, but it’s just underwhelming and not very flavorful to an even greater degree than the aforementioned stout.

Almost black in the middle moving towards dark brown towards the edge of the beer, 1/3" tan head on the top. Standard amount of chocolate aroma for such a label, works nicely.
Taste was good, but the mouthfeel/texture was thin for a stout. And I can like a thin stout. But ultimately, this one lacked in the malt characters, it was essentially the adjunct chocolate that carried the way without much in the power train to move it. Bitterness, roastiness and body held in check.
