12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass

A: Orange body white 2 finger head, medium lacing and retention

S: Smell of pineapple and grapefruit hops

T: Follows the nose along with a bit of peppery spiciness. Some bitterness but not a lot.

M: Medium carbonation and body some lingering bitterness on the palette

O: This is pretty good If it were cheaper I would drink it all the time as its one of the better pale ales I've had.

Pours hazy golden minimal head but the bartender poured it wrong and I was too lazy to beer geek out on him. Decent lacing.

Grapefruit and slight pine in the nose maybe a resin mixed in there. Nothing out of this world.

Light and clean in the mouth crisp bitterness very little malt character. Refreshing.

Overall decent beer could have 2-3 of these on a hot day if there wasn't better options but it's just an average pale ale. Cheers!

"...brewed with a blend of the season's best organic hops." With that in mind, your brain would trigger your expectations to a lofty level. I haven't seen the hop heads seeking Hop Cuvee out, so perhaps I should reset my expectations. With 12 ounces, I move on to the beer:

It's colored like a yellow orange crayon which I used often in my primary schooling. Resting on top is a half-inch of head, which drops to a semi-creamy lace. I smells some hops alright. Grassy hops, herbal, lemongrass, a grittiness which gives the beer the character of a fading ale. I can't say for certain if this beer is fading, as the label is not dated.

It is drinkable, that's for sure. The taste, despite a few minor flaws, is also appetizing. Clean at first, then comes a burst of Cascades and a light coating of diacetyl. There's a vague fruitiness from the hops, a moderate hop bitterness which slowly creeps into the profile. It has a pleasing snap of crispness which enhances the hop flavor. Don't get too excited, the hoppiness is not going to be confused for Pliny anytime soon. There's an herbal accent throughout, which doesn't excite me.

Take it as it is, an easy drinking pale ale with an extra dose of hops. Middle of the pack per style.

This is a very good example of what I think an APA should be. Not the pungent hoppy of an AIPA, but instead a slightly over the top pale - very bitter and crisp. It works, and it does the big taste without a lot of boozy maltiness.

It opens to a nice hoppy aroma, great head and lace, and a cloudy this-means-business look to it. The taste works as a very bitter yet crisp and fresh tasting ale, with no yeast and little malt coming through. The combination of simcoe plus two fresher tasting hops works well.

The aftertaste lingers nicely as a bitter hoppy thing. Overall the taste leaves a much bigger impression than a sessionable beer usually does. This is a successful brew and one I would recommend and buy again.

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #77 (June 2013):

LOOK: Hazy golden hue, impressive lacing

SMELL: Blood orange zest, cilantro, green peppercorn, dried grass, bread crust

TASTE: Deep smoothness, crisp, moderate bodied, ample hop bitterness, herbal, citrus rind, mildly rustic graininess, biscuity, hint of alcohol; clean, dry finish

One of the more interesting brews we have run into in a good while. While it dons the guise of an American Pale Ale, there is something different about this brew. Could it be the organic malt and hops? Perhaps a bit, but we like how this beer was put together. Well done!

Poured from a 12 fl oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, sunflower gold with a generous white head and full lacing.

Smell: Citrusy hops and sweet maltiness, pine-like bitterness, and lemon on the nose.

Taste: Crisp hop bitterness, citrus fruits, and lemon/ acidic freshness. Alcohol not present in the taste.

Mouthfeel: Silky smooth over the palate with a clean dry finish.

Overall: A beer of the month club selection. A very good American pale ale.

Poured minimal head on a hazy, straw colored body.
The aroma is faint, but a little grain and lemon is there.
The taste is disjointed. Starts with mild lemon bitterness, moves to a strong, metallic bitterness at the end. Not particularly enjoyable.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
The bitterness at the finish lacked balance. Not sure I'm going to finish it.
