12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a rusty red-brown with a surprisingly small head. Also kind of surprised by the minimal amount of visible carbonation. Lacing is minimal.

Aroma: This beer has a nice mix of aromas, with toffee, caramel, some burnt sugar and a little grassy earth thrown in. Complex for the style.

Taste: This is a very appealing amber ale. The taste follows the nose, with lots of toffee and caramel. Nice slightly sweet finish. It's far from super-sweet, but there are some very nice sweet accents in the flavor.

Mouthfeel: It's pretty standard in terms of heft for the style. Maybe leans a little more towards lighter than heavier, but not in a problematic way.

Overall: I'm a big fan of this. It's a really excellent red ale - it's quaffable and refreshing, but has complexity and character and pairs well with most meals. I had it with some mac & cheese and hot dogs while watching baseball. USA, baby.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. I do like the label. Sampled on March 22, 2014.

It pours medium caramel amber with a smallish off-white head that does tend to linger. It really looks like it should.

The aroma is fairly typical for the style with a whole lot of caramel malts and sweetness and little to no hops.

Mainly body mainly.

The flavor emits a humongous caramel or toffee malt character which is very typical for the style but something I was not necessarily in the mood for at the time. But as far as the style goes this is right on. Beyond that it is nothing that blows me away.

Red-amber beer with a thin head. Some noticeable carbonation.

Rustic malts with an earthy toast. Light pithy hops offer nuances of citrus, specifically, grapefruit. A little toned-down, but decent.

Good hop bitterness with some citrusy and herbal flavors. Pithy, but darker malts contribute a faint roast character and hints of muddled pomme fruit. It does taste a bit restrained.

Mellow mouthfeel with a light-medium body and a carbonation level that's a little on the coarse side. Very drinkable.

I'd like to get a few more of these, because I think my bottle could've been fresher. Shows a lot of promise.
