Copper color. Light bodied – far too light for a Wee Heavy. Sweet but not syrupy. Dry finish.

A: Sepia coloring with a khaki head that was milky, thin, with a light helping of lace.

S: Scotchy caramel apple, light boozy chocolate with some caramel pine and herbiness.

T: Flavor was chocolate, sweet-caramel, nuttiness, with some honey toasted malt. Sweet munich-caramel, cardamon, toffee with a nice boozy sweetness combined with some rosewood and warm, woody floral tones.

M: Malty, syrupy mouthful, nice consistency, quiet demeanor of carbonation. Boozy warmth.

O: Overall malt forward, sweet, boozy caramel honey, something you warm up to the deeper into the experience.

Picked this up earlier this week in Totowa, having never had this or even hearing of this Brewery before. I wasn't sure what to expect with this and at first, I thought this may have been a Belgian Dubbel. The fact that this was a Scotch/Wee Heavy Ale without being too terribly strong, malty, or sticky was a testament to how easily drinkable and full this beer turned out to be, since it was nice with its notes and alcoholic subtlety.

Nice pour to this, with a plum hue and frothy head combining for a pleasing appearance. The gleaming opaqueness of this was what set it apart, reminding me of a Belgian beer that I mentioned above. Lots of booze and dark fruit to the nose - with mostly cherry and raisin to be found here. A hint of sourness, cocoa, and lambic-like funk to the taste as well, with a lot of alcohol in the aftertaste. Not a lot of peat or scotch here and only a hint of caramel could be found underneath everything. This was relatively thin and the carbonation wasn't high but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of this beer in the least.

Yes, this was strong but if I had another one of these, I'd crack it open and enjoy it. That's not to imply that this was a session beer, as this certainly wasn't. Rather, it's because this was immensely drinkable and complex enough that I wanted to finish it off and figure out what I liked about it so much. Unexpected surprises are a big reason of why I try so many different beers out and this certainly fell into that category. No doubt that this was worth seeking out and the most enjoyable example of this style that I've had a chance to review on here.

Deep brown with garnet hues. Head sticks to the top as a thin disc. There must be some booze thinning out the foam.

Sweet malts with Scotch ale fruitiness. Raisin, black grape, creamed toffee, barley grain, cinnamon-like spice, and dark honey.

Followa the nose with some added gruff and booze. Raisin-y, brandied, and sweetly malty; with hints of clove, spice, and cherry cordial. A little bit of artificial chocolate and herbal hops. Honey gooeyness. A tad savory near the finish.

Lots of obvious carbonation. The body has a light syrup consistency with little stick.

A good Wee Heavy for the sweeter and stronger beer "lover". Still has a spicy bitterness that works. It refreshes the palate often enough.
