Tartar rouge "American wild red ale" 6.0% on tap at the brewpub in Healdsburg.

Deep amber with a decent head but minimal lacing.

Aroma. Floral and tart sour ale.

Moderately complex and tart; not significantly bitter. Very fruity with ripe soft fruits.

Feel: Medium body. Low but adequate carbonation.

O: quote nice and recommended, but not up with the Russian River Supplication from earlier today.

On tap at Rattle-N-Hum, pours hazy amber with a small off white head that faded quickly and left basically no lacing. The lighting was bad in the bar and the bartender seemed new and rushed, so this may not have been the best presentation or representation of this beer. Judge accordingly.

Smells and tastes of sour apple, cherry, dark fruit, herbs, light funk, white wine, mild spices, piney hops and more sour fruity notes. It's complex and fruity with just enough sour to make it nice for the style and still easy to quaff.

Mild carbonation, it was thin and very easy to drink with sourness and some tart fruit and minor funk which made it fun and enjoyable to drink with a clean finish. It was a small pour at the bar, maybe 10 oz most likely, which prevented the head from developing so I'll boost that number a bit since most everything made by Bear Republic is good so it rests with the bartender on the poor looks. Overall I liked this brew, it was enjoyable and perfect for a summer night.

Hate sours. So ignore me.

The beer comes in a light golden color.

The beer up front has refreshing apricot, pluot, and unripen stone fruit flavors. There's a light biscuity malt and candy sweetness in the middle. The tart quality leans towards apple cider vinegar.

A balanced tart brew.

Snifter on tap at THG.

A: Served a dark caramel amber with almost no head. Pretty flat looking after about a minute.
S: Super musty scents of damp basement and musty attic. The oak comes through, slight acidity, slight red berry.
T: Musty flavors of damp basement mixed with apple juice and greasy oak. Very tart and bright notes of red fruits, biting acid, musty complex funk, and greasy oak in the finish. The aftertaste is gritty and super musty and bone dry. Earthy and funky, super tart, and musty. Dried cherries, tart cranberry, unripened red berries.
M: Super dry, super tart and a acidic, super clean and super refreshing. Super. Carbonation is spritzy and ample but fairly soft.
O: Interesting bug profile, complex yeast/bacteria. Very tart, clean and refreshing. Very puckering and dry.

T – Tart, sour, sweet fruit notes, cherry, red apple, red wine vinegar, oaky, dry.

M – Very dry and astringent, bitter and tart, great.

O – Fantastic offering from Bear Republic, wonderfully sour and complex.

On tap at the 2014 Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, grain, fruit, and acidic aromas. Taste is much the same with sour malt, fruit, and pickle juice flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with an odd pickle juice taste that is unexpected.

The base beer, Tartare, is very sour as it is... adding cherries really balanced everything out. Loved it.
