A: Deep reddish brown. Really murky, with visible chunks of what is probably hops or yeast. A lot of sediment settles to the bottom of the glass. Light tan head sticks around for a while and leaves good lacing.
S: This is one hop-forward red ale. Piney and citrus, just like their Racer 5, but this one has a higher malt scent. Some sweet caramel and toasted malts shine through. Smells great.
T: Quite a lot of hop flavor. Citrus (think lemon and grapefruit) and pine resin. Juicy, yet with a slightly dry finish, the hops dominate this red. The malt tries to balance the near IPA like hop wallop, but they fall short. I get a slightly spicy, rye-like characteristic. The hop bitterness and flavor aftertaste is long, long, long.
M: Medium-heavy and slightly sticky. The carbonation leaves a full, heavy feeling in your mouth without being intrusive.
Overall this is another good beer from Bear Republic. It's a hop lovers red that's for certain. Wish it was slightly maltier actually.
