On tap @ Fatheads. Had to grab a pint of this when I saw it on the big board.
Orange w/ amber touches and a nice fluffy head. Looks a bit darker than what I envision to be a perfect DIPA and the head retention/lace wasn't in the world class category, but a good looking beer nonetheless.
Smell is really good. Citrus (most notably pineapple, grapefruit, and orange), herbs, pine, and a touch of mint.
Taste is up there with some of the best DIPAs I've ever had! A kiss of caramel and biscuity malt (which is almost a touch peppery for some reason) keeps things well grounded. Nice layers of citrus and pine provide adequate bitterness. Great DIPA, almost perfect but I could use a touch more depth from the hops.
Nice light-medium body with great carbonation. I normally like my DIPA's a touch lighter in body, but I can't say this doesn't work perfectly with this beer. Outstanding mouth on this one.
Drinkability was good but there's a conflict in sweet and ruinous aftertastes that made it a bit rougher than I desired. But a great beer, probably one of the best from Bear Republic. Worth seeking out!
