Wow. Lucky me. Had this beer on tap at Ben and Nick's in Oakland. Had no idea about the beer other than the little the bar could tell me, so I contacted Bear Republic and received an email about it's specifics. Should be available in bottles soon, they say!

A- A beautiful pale reddish ale, almost golden. Big fluffy head with great big bubbles and thick, sticky lace. Head was easily two fingers, stuck around for the whole pint, which says a lot for a beer in a bar pint glass.

S- Very estery, probably due to the Belgian yeast they use to ferment it. Hints of yeast, cloves, and the like. Some subtle vanilla... A definite well balanced hop aroma...slightly piny, slightly citrus. This is a very complex and amazing brew. Well done.

T- This unique ale is a blend of Racer 5 and Red Rocket worts, and is fermented with a Belgian yeast. It was a true to form A-IPA, floral, pungent, biting, citric. Very delicious, flavorful, intense. There was also an added maltiness from the red ale wort, and even more complex flavor profiles from the yeast. Between the hops and yeast there was a wonderful spice, floral and earthy and slightly sweet that cradles the tongue from the front, and strips it dry on the end. Very interesting. I've never quite had anything like it. Just imagine a red ale, an ipa, and Belgian yeast, and it's all there, very well balanced. The malts were present in the mid-body, the hops controlled the finish, and the yeast brought everything together on the pallet. This is an impressive beer.

M- Rich, not too thick, small amount of stickiness...big and strong on the tongue, acidic, dry. I say dry because that's how it finishes, but in the mouth it is malty, and very present. Bubbly, clean, smooth, dry, acidic....Some very conflicting things that somehow worked together here.

D- Had this after a Pliny, so I was done for the day, but I could drink this 'til the cows come home. Delicious, complex...I'd like to have it with company and discuss it's insane inner workings. Definitely a conversation beer, definitely something you could session over an afternoon.
