We're going to see fireworks. The kind where you sit on the hood of your car for hours and cuddle next to the one you love while sipping out of a red Solo cup what you pretend is sweet tea.
The sky is amber/orange as we reach our destination and begin setting up, a huge pillow of cloud cover that I hope dissipates at some point so we can see them... it's still lingering...
We finish, it gets dark, I cuddle up next to her and pop the top.
The aroma... tons of grapefruit peel, so much that it SMELLS bitter, and fresh cut pine in the back there, a bit of cheerio-like malt just coming in a little, but not enough that it detracts at all from the main event... It starts. The sky lights up different colors and our ears take a beating with every new explosion...
So I take a sip, while I glance away from the sky to look at the fire-sparkles reflected in her eyes (you are the most beautiful person in the world)...
Flavour of resin at first, pine sap, that quickly gives way to the note that you'd expect from gnawing on grapefruit peel, and the finish leaves exactly that, an immense bitterness that lingers and lingers.
The evening is brisk, I wrap my coat around us both and we alternate knowing glances and kisses on the cheek and forehead with gazing raptly at the explosions in the sky. It's full-bodied but not heavy, clean, dry and astringent, but with relatively low carbonation and that intensely dry, bitter finish that some learn to love and some are born in love with.
We are the latter.

Appearance is a clear and striking copper with a finger of head that dissipated rather quickly but left some intricate lace on the glass. The nose is piney and hoppy. The malt and hop flavors are present in a balanced combination but there is just nothing extraordinary about this offering. There is also a semi-sour bite from the alcohol that is slightly unpleasant.
This is a fine and perhaps even above average DIPA. However, it pales in comparison to Racer X or even Apex.

Good head for a bar pour. Sticks around throughout the tasting. It also leaves a blanket of lace. Dark gold and nearly clear.
Mild, but appealing fresh, floral hop aroma. A bit caramel (crystal) malt as the secondary nose. Pleasant blend.
The malt comes out more strongly in the taste. There's a bit of sweetness with an I fermented malt touch. Comes across like an amber with a solid bitter hop kick in the swallow. Full bodied with an average carbonation level. The aftertaste is bittersweet but more bitter than sweet.
