A - Nice darker red, nice lacing that devours that pint glass, head is there.

S - Smells of hefty malts and that red kinda sweet smell, some hops back there.

T - Tate is rich in hops of some sort (mixed) and a heavy malty hoped up alcoholish brew, thumbs up I like it.

M - Medium carbonation, just perfect, stong aftertaste of malts and hops + alcohol, good stuff.

O - Very nice Imperial red, super strong taste of malts and some kinda mixed hops with a strong taste. Thumbs up for a different style!

Very surprised to see this one in the Big Hunt in DC, but happy to try it out. As with it's little brother (I'm assuming that's the Red Rocket, although what do I know), this is a big tasty beer. Tons of spicy hops all over the place, balanced well with the malt. Good amount of dried fruit in here. This one also has some serious sweetness going on, as you might expect given the ABV. Reminded me somewhat of the other malt/hop bomb, Arrogant Bastard. I'd definitely try it again.

Appearance: Arrives at the bar with a dark rust, almost brown color; the modest head leaves dots of lace behind

Smell: Pithy grapefruit with a hint of cherry (of all things)

Taste: After a hint of caramel malt, the grapefruit takes over with an increasingly pithy character by mid-palate; even so, there is a touch of cherry-chocolate sweetness that appears; balanced flavors, after the swallow, with the underlying sweetness countering the bitter flavors somewhat; in the finish, however, the hops are triumphant

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Drinkability: The pithy flavors challenge the palate somewhat, but this is still a very nice beer

A: Poured from a growler to pint glass. Had a brownish-red color and a thick, hazy consistency. Had a nice, creamy head that lasted a long while. Good lacing.

S: A solid aroma of citrus hops and thick malts.

T: Tasted of big citrus hops (this is a Bear Republic beer after all) up front and caramel malt in the finish. Not quite as thick and meaty as one might expect, but very tasty.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

D: Like most of Bear Republic's beers, this one is well made and easy to drink. Not quite as good as the original Red Rocket, but still tasty.

A: Pours a hazy caramel with a one finger head that fades fast but never fully goes away.

S: Plenty of caramel malt followed by citrus hops.

T: Similar to Red Rocket but a little less complex. Sweet caramel malt upfront followed by citrus resiny hops.

M & D: Pretty thick beer with moderate carbonation. All things considered this amber beauty goes down easy considering the alcohol.

Doesn't surpass regular Red Rocket as one of my favorite Amber Ales, but still damn good. Hopefully the Beer Exchange gets another keg of this one.

A - Poured from a growler into a pint glass. Pours garnet with a two finger, khaki head.

S - Caramel malt, grapefruit hops, brown sugar.

T - There is an intense hop presence here, but nicely countered by some roasted malt goodness. Warm alcohol, citrus hoppy finish.

M - Slightly viscous, medium bodied. Nice carbonation.

On tap at Rose & Crown in Palo Alto. Poured into a PINT GLASS. Thanks!

Pours a dark amber/brown color with a small 1 finger deep almost white head.

Smells of caramel malts, brown sugar, lots of citric & piney hops.

Similar to Red Rocket, there is a nice malt sweetness & fruitiness...but this....this....has some serious citrus hops going on in the nose. Through the big suragy sweetness comes some grapefruit, grass, earth, piney hops. Oh yeah. Some booziness comes along as well.

Thick, big, chewy, oily, moderate carbonation.

A big ass beer that smacks you in the face. Eat first. Bread. Pasta. Sponge. Drinks almost like a barleywine. A hoppy & tasty one.

First and foremost be careful with this one. The ABV is up there way up there. I had four on tap and wow!! This beer looks delicious when set in front of you. A light brown Carmel color with an awesome head that stands up and will not quit. You will have trouble seeing through this one.

The smell is awesome and a lot like the taste. The hops jump up and settle down and then those sweet malts just dance all around.

One of the better beers I have had in awhile on tap. This one is up there and can not wait to revisit when it comes back around. Thanks to Matt at Capone's

Draught @ BTAH.

Pours a dark, hazy brown, with a fluffy off-white head that fades fairly quickly.

Nose is immensely bright and sweet - tons of sweet citrus, some caramel malt poking through, fruity esters, hints of pine.

Taste is sweet up front - combination of caramel malt and sweet citrus moves almost immediately to a big, huge, spicy, fairly piny hop note that just exudes resiny bitterness. Spiciness lends a rye-like character to the malt. So spicy it's almost prickly. Finish is big and bitter, sits heavily and unapologetically on the palate.

Fits well into the category - not quite a barleywine or a DIPA, sits just outside of both categories due more to the way the malt and hops manifest themselves, rather than how much.

On tap at Sac Brewing Co.

A - Poured into a 9 oz goblet. Dark mahogany in color with a reddish head. Refuses to dissipate and leaves a nice lacing.

S/T - Caramel, citrus, grapefruit, and slight alcohol.

M - Slightly thin, but a good balance between malts and hops. Slightly warming too.

D - Good thing it's in a 9 oz goblet.

On tap at Capone's.

A-Pours a deep, murky mahogany with a thick tan head and lots of lacing.

S-Lots of hops in the nose with a fair amount of malt as well.

T-Excellent. Very malty and sweet in the front with a strong pine hop finish. Nicely balanced between malt and hops.

M-Medium bodied or a bit heavier and crisp.

D-Too high to be a session beer, obviously, but good for two tasty pints.

Had this one on tap at Capone's in Norristown, PA.

A: Opaque/cloudy brown body with ruby highlights. 1 finger of tan head dissipated slowly. Nice lacing left on the glass.

S: Sweet caramel malt and piney hops.

T: Full of citrusy hops. Balanced by caramel tasts from the malt and never got too sweet.

M: Full body. Silky smoothe.

D: Very nicely balanced. The beer menu said it was 6.8 % ABV. I could drink this all day.
In fact, my fiends and I took a couple growlers home and drank some the rest of the day.

Just put on-tap at Fathead's in Pittsburgh. Came in a brandy snifter in a light brown body with a two-finger head (which is hard in a brandy snifter) and it left lacings for days. The hops and malts are really pronounced in the smell, with citric hops and hints of dark fruits and some sweet malts coming through. The hops really come through in the taste as this is almost a DIPA hop bomb. There is a strong fruit taste in the beer, as I picked up all kinds of fruits - citric notes like lemon and orange, berries, grape. There is also a balance with the malts as I picked up some roasted, caramel and toffee notes which led to moderate sweetness and helped aleviate some of the hop bitterness. Still finished strong and dry, but not overpowering. This is a beer I am glad I got to try.

On tap at Capone's the other day.

At least visually, I don't see much difference between this beer and the regular red rocket. The beer pours a red amber color with good head retention and lacing. On the nose, however, is where one first detects a difference from the regular red rocket. While I still get the expected fruity malt aroma, there is decidedly more citrus in this beer. Flavors on the palate replicate the nose. This is clearly a hoppier version of the regular red rocket, which I consider to be a good thing. The regular rocket was always a bit too sweet and malty for me, which I thought detracted from its drinkability. IMO, this beer has just the right amount of hoppy bitterness, making the beer better balanced and with everything now in the right preportion. The beer has a medium bodied mouthfeel (as before), but drinkability is much improved in this beer, thanks to the additional hoppy bitterness. It really gives the impression of lightening up the flavor profile, making the beer less heavy on the palate. In fact, I found myself enjoying this beer more and more as I drank it.

A very nice beer from Bear Republic.

Woohoo, Double Red Rocket Ale! Thanks go out to Rose and Crown in Palo Alto California for tapping this bad boy. It was served into a snifter.

It's deep dark ruby reddish brown, almost purple infact. Can't really see through it at all. Has a fairly thin rim of head on top that is a few shades off white in color. Could use a little more work here.

The aroma is masterful. Big notes of pine waft up and clear the sinuses with a background fresh baked sweet bread smell and hints of lemon and orange. Some flowery smells here and there too if you're trying to pick them out.

Tastes much like I expected, a double version of Red Rocket Ale. Sweet bready malts are up front which is why I like this hoppy red more than others with more muddled backbones. This malt backbone speaks to you and is very sweet. The sweetness provides a great balance for the pine tree that smacks you in the jaw afterwards. Notes of citrus are there too in perfect harmony.

Feels viscous, oily, smooth, with not much carbonation to get in the way of the experience. Very enjoyable.

Fairly easy to drink considering this beer is probably quite high in ABV (I'd guess 9% at least) Still it's a sipper you want to warm as you're drinking it to get the full experience. A real winner of a beer. Can't wait to try Racer X coming soon to Rose and Crown.

On tap at Capone's.

Poured a deeper amber color, almost brown, with a small sized off white head. Aromas of citrus, toasted caramel, and some floral hops. Tastes of citrus, floral hops, caramel, and the same toastiness. This one was nice and hoppy and enjoyable.
