On tap at Neighborhood, 11/10/11.
A-Pour is a light hazy ruby, with no head or lacing.
S-Tart with light vinegar notes.
T-Puckery but not overdone, vinegar and sweet fruit.
M-Light bodied, low carbonation.
O-Very nice. Who knew Bear Republic made a sour? Not a great one, but pretty solid.

On tap poured into a snifter at The Bistro, reviewed from notes. Beer pours a golden orange with a thin film of a off white collar. Minimal lacing that quickly slid right back into the glass. Not much carbonation visible, a bubble floating up every now and then.
Nose is heavy on brett funk, but it dominates too much. Very funky, wet horse blanket is appropriate for this. Beyond the funk, some very minor stone fruit and lemon with a little oak tannin, but then you get more brett funk to remind you it's there.
Taste is pretty one dimensional, lactic sourness, with some slight plum sweetness on the way down.
Light body with little to no carbonation. A case where maybe there was a little too much brett character in a beer.

On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Beer Fest. Pours a hazy copperish amber with a small white head that disappears relatively quickly and leaves little lacing on the glass. The aroma is some brett, a bit of oak, and a light peppery not. Pretty bland. Taste is some bretty funkiness, a bit of oak, and some light lemon. Finishes with a light tartness. Light, watery body. Low carbonation. A pretty bland, boring beer. Not really worth trying.

On-tap at Pizza Port OB.
Beer pours a very murky dark golden color with a half finger of white head that lasts quite awhile. The nose is pretty tart with a cherry smell as well as some strong vinegar notes and some funkyness. On the taste this beer is pretty tart and really puts out the vinegar flavors with some cherry sweetness. Medium bodied with good carbonation and flavors that cling to the mouth. I found this one to be extremely enjoyable, never heard of it before having it and I was surprised to see it rated as low as it is. I'd love to have some more of this one.

On tap at URGE.
A: Dark orange with some transparency and a small white head.
S: Apricot is bright and it's accompanied by vinegar and a little acetone. There's some cherry and light oak notes. The nose has a sugary quality to it.
T: Tart up front with a light lactic sourness. Cherry blends with apricot, plum, and oak. There's a upper low acetic acidity and a little vinegar in the flavor. I get just a touch of acetone.
M: Lower medium body with upper medium carbonation.
Overall: This was well done. Recommended.

On-tap at Churchill's
A: The beer pours a hazy golden amber color with a small white head.
S: The nose features a Mild vinegar note as well as a distinct Cheerios character. There is some wet oak and grass as well as the ever popular straw/hay. A little booze and a mild malt sweetness.
T: The flavor starts out with a slight sweetness followed by plenty of grass, green apple, and lemon zest. As with the aroma, some vinegar is present, as is the cereal sweetness and flavor of Cheerios.
M: Medium in body with a medium carbonation.
O: While not atrocious, this was not very good by any means.

Tasting notes from 5/09. On tap @ the truth. I had also had this one a NOTB 09 but have a better memory of it at the dove. Poured out a reddish brown minimal lacing and head. Interesting nose, maybe some sourness or smoke? Seemed unbalanced sharp sourness that didn't come together in the end. A good try but just didn't pan out for me.

On-tap during Beachwood BBQ's sour fest. On to the beer:
A pale orange colored beer. Mild tartness hits the nose with a little rye spice. Faint strawberry. To taste, it is a spicy kind of sourness. It has a sharp feeling sourness, which is...um, different. As it ends, tobacco appears. An interesting ride, though it could be improved upon.

Sampled at Night of the Barrels 2009.
Pours moderately murky and red/brown with little head and no lacing or retention. Its about par for the course for sour beers.
Smell was fruity and funky at the same time. Some malt was present in the aroma as well. Anything with brett in it is going to be complex and this is no different.
Flavor is interesting and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Its sour and fruity but also bitter (which is distracting) and quite malty. Some red (crystal) malts present for sure. In my notes I added "Sour Barleywine" but if I had to guess if they weren't going for a sour barleywine then they were going for a flanders red. It is also quite dry.
Body is thin, which is to be expected but again the bitterness gets in the way. This could have done with a touch more CO2. Wouldn't drink much of this.
Its a good first try for a sour and I would like to see what they can do with the genre. Its just that this one was kind of a miss.
