This English Estate October Ale is brewed with 10% raw wheat and 10% split peas. Fermented with our house Scottish ale yeast and barrel aged for 100 days in 1st beer use French Oak barrels.

Description: Barrel aged for 100 days in French oak.

Deep red, almost ruby, color. Modest head, nearly no lace. Cloudy.

Sweet (like molasses) aroma with ample alcohol nose.

The smell carries through in the flavor. Lots of alcohol warmth. Syrupy but with good carbonation. Comes across as beer brandy blend. Aftertaste is sugary with only a touch of bitterness.

Finsihed the Bear Republic Beer Dinner at Good Life, Massapequa NY with this guy

A - Orange pour with a red hue. Minimal foam and carbonation. Opaque.

S - Complex smell of fresh berries, vanilla extract, honey, and molasses-sweet malt.

T - Taste didn't quite capture the details in the smell, but it was a richly sweet strong ale that could put you into a diabetic coma.

M - A sipper. The sugary feel and thick syrupy consistency makes this a good after dinner drink.

O - A fun beer that is very complex. Good dessert beer.

On tap at the Apex today.

The beer pours a reddish amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is very boozy, rich and sweet, showcasing considerable vanilla, sweet malt, honey and light brown sugar. The flavor profile replicates the nose, and is likewise pretty sweet. I thought it dominated by honey, cherry cough crop and vanilla, with a long, sweet, boozy finish. Drinkability is pretty good, though the high alcohol is pretty prevalent, making this beer very much a sipper.

A nice enough beer, but probably one better suited for the winter time in the NW, rather than a gorgeous, 70 degree spring time day in Portland.

Consumed on tap at the 2009 Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest on 12/04/2009. The beer is hazy tangerine orange with a small white head. The nose is very fruity, with notes of vanilla, orange, nectarine, a strong apricot. The sugary quality is reminiscent of honey. The fruit is quite aromatic. The beer tastes much like it smells, with dominant apricot and lesser notes of oranges, tangerine, and nectarines. The taste is decidedly sugary with notes of honey. This reminds me of Ballast Point's Barmy Ale.

On tap at the Bistro Barrel Aged Fest in Hayward.

Hazy medium amber color with a medium-sized off-white head.

Aroma is floral with sweet malt and caramel, oak, fruity notes, and peas, oddly enough.

Flavor really showcases the split peas, which I found really interesting and different. Also some slight vinous notes, oak, wheat, sweet caramel malt, and mild floral hops.

Medium body with soft carbonation and high drinkability, especially for the high ABV, which is very well hidden. Hell of a beer!
