Belgo-American Rye IPA brewed with 30% rye malt and copious amounts of citrusy American hops. Racked into a favorite funky French oak wine barrel and allowed to undergo secondary fermentation using only the native flora and fauna.

Golden color with a substantial amount of haze to it. Is it the rye? Who knows. Small thin head, 1/5", white.

Aroma was nice. Plenty of dry hopping giving it a nice kick but the rye was not noticeable despite a claimed 30% bill, which is huge for rye. Some of the white wine barrel is probably having an effect on this as well.

Body was relatively light allowing the belgian yeast to come in a little bit. High carbonation. A little bit of bitterness with citrus flavors. Enjoyable, unique, but I wouldn't be jumping through hoops if it was ever bottled.

On-tap at Oakquinox

A: The pour is a rather pale golden color with a white head on top.

S: Still surprisingly hoppy, though nowhere near as good as the regular. Nice floral hop aromas with some citrus and citrus peel. The oak is there, but not overbearing. Some mildly sweet bread and malt notes.

T: The bread and malt flavors are fairly pronounced here. The oak and barrel contributions are somewhat minimal. Floral hops with nice orange and lemon zest flavors. Perhaps a touch of grass and spice.

M: Medium in body with a moderate to high level of carbonation.

O: I'm not usually one for Barrel Aged IPAs, and especially not a Barrel Aged Belgian IPA, but this was pretty enjoyable.

On tap at the 2011 Pizza Port Barrel Blast.

A: Beautiful beer. Pale straw golden with a slight haze. Great thick pillowy white head with great retention and wicked lacing.

A: Wet leather, rye, orange, peach, lemon, bubble gum.

T: Moderately bitter with nice fruit flavor: peach, orange, and lemon. The rye adds a subtle spiciness. Is there Brett in here? Nice stuff.

M: Upper light body with upper moderate carbonation. Sticky and dry mouthfeel.

Overall: A nice beer. I'm not normally a fan of Belgian IPAs, but this was quite good, and a welcome respite from the stouts and barleywines.

Dark cloudiness at the core of this dull yellow and amber beer.

Great aroma to it, the Amarillo dry hopping really stands out, I don't think I've had too many, if any Belgian style dipa/ipa's that use Amarillos, this is a nice start.

Didn't really pick up the spice despite the 30% rye bill to it. I don't think I've had any rye in any belgian, much less belgian dipa style, so again, this may be a limitation of beerandraiderfan and not the good folks at BR. Seemed to have a light crisp body that the yeast strain didn't totally dominate, an appreciable existence. Stood out despite being the tenth sampe at the 5th annual West Coast Barrel Aged Festival. Went very well with the warm weather that day.

"A barrel aged version of our American-Belgo-style Double IPA breweed with 30% rye, American 2 row malt, Pilsner malt, American hops, andd fermented with a Belgian Abbey ale yeast. With significant quantities of Chinook and Amarillo in the kettle and Amarillo dry hops, this bitter, hoppy and spicy ale is sure to delight."
