Almost all their beer is in the fridge. They have tons of bombers, including Stone and Rogue and a few Belgians. They have lots of sixpacks of good stuff too. And judging from xlperro's review they have rotating sales that are awesome. I got a 6pack of Deadguy for $4.99. OMG that was awesome. If you talk to a random employee, you'll find they're clueless about beer. Incidentally, this place is a deli and convenience store and a fine wine store. This place is open later than everything else in that part of La Jolla, so when you've got that craving for Olde English...

Stopped by here after a recent visit to La Jolla Shores beach. They had some Russian River beers that I had not seen elsewhere locally, and also picked up an Avery Tweak. Deli looked pretty good, and they had a selection of cigars and other items there as well. They rate a 5 for the RR & Tweak by themselves.
There are in a small strip mall north of the Whole Foods, and I actually found the store by accident

I don't know what it is about this place that draws me in, and I've referred to it for the longest time as "the liquor store by Pho'" due to it's proximity to the Vietnamese place, but it's the variety, depth of local beers, and fair prices that keep me coming back.
Sure, BevMo and even Whole Foods probably have more beer, but Spirits has some Belgian beers (Gulden Draak, Chimay, etc) as well as some craft beers, especially of the San Diego variety (think Stone, Alesmith, Green Flash). There are about 3 fridges full of good beer, one of six/twelve packs of crafts, one of bombers of crafts, and another of foreign. Although there isn't the most variety around and the staff really know NOTHING about beer, they are friendly enough.
Plus, I hear their sandwiches at the deli are pretty good too. If you want a place to get good beer and have people who can talk to you about it, go down to the Cove and go to BevMo or go over to SDSU and Keg and Bottle, but if you're in La Jolla and are in need of a good brew (especially local) for fair prices, SOSG is a nice place to try out.

Located just south of UCSD, St. German's is a deli/liquor store. The last time I was in here it was for a sandwich when I was 18, so never paid attention to the beers (or wines) before until I was here again recently.
A good selection of beers (mostly) in the coolers. One section of Belgians (mostly 750s: Chimay, Delirium, Gulden Draak, Lindemans, etc.) and a bunch more coolers of American craft beers. Mosly local (Green Flash, Alesmith, Stone, etc.) and California (Bear Republic, Russian River, etc.), but also some others (DogFish Head, etc.). Generally top-quality stuff, at pretty reasonable prices. Though I was a bit surprised that there were so few beers from England, Germany, etc., aside from a few bottles of Sam Smith.
I get the impression that the staff doesn't know much about the beers, but they seem friendly enough, I guess.
