Had this on tap at my hotel up in Watkins Glen, then had a bit more at the brewey/winery restauarant too.
A nice dark bodied brown bock. A fair amount of foamy head, but not too much. A deep alcohol smell. First sip was good. A strong beer. You taste the 8.50% ABV, but the alcohol doesn't overwhelm the flavor.
Heavy, thick, sweet flavor. Candied fruit comes to mind. Not a session beer, but makes for a nice, slow sipping drink.

Sled Dog is a pleasing, if perhaps not overly sweet doppelbock, with obvious nods towards Munich and Vienna malt extremes. Usage of other malts and flavors would move this beer to a realm of more complex offerings. Currently, it is an acceptable version of the style, but not one that would prevent me from seeking out others.
Pours a 0.75cm tall head of beige-colored foam, made up of small to medium-sized bubbles, creating a slightly frothy, dish-soap like appearance. Retention is average, lasting slightly over one minute, the foam leaving modest lacing on the sides of the glass in the form of a few scattered spots and lines. Body is a dark amber brown color, with light bringing out slightly lighter amber-red hues. Carbonation is visible through the transparent body, sparse in number and low in activity.
Aroma is of toasted bread crusts and a bit of caramel malt, dried dates, and figs. Better than average, but not particularly expressive aside from the bread crust and caramel malt sweetness.
Flavor is of toasted and caramel malts with significant Maillard reaction flavors, creating a dense toasted bread crust with light caramel, dried dates, brown dried figs, and mild German hop herbal and bitter qualities. Front of palate picks up toasted bread crusts with light caramel and dried dates, perhaps a bit of German hop herbal and woodsy qualities, though I may be imagining it. Mid-palate of toasted bread crusts, caramel malt, substantial sweetness, dried dates and lesser brown dried figs; there is also a German hop herbal/woodsiness that lingers in the background. Back of palate finds toasted bread crust and caramel-like sweetness fixed to a mild German hop bitterness and woodsiness. Aftertaste of toasted bread crusts, slight caramel and nuts, and a more than modest slightly Germanic hop-driven bitterness.
Beer is medium-heavy in body, with carbonation of medium-low intensity, resulting in a beer that is slightly foamy, primarily smooth and slightly stagnant mouthfeel. Fitting for the style and weight of the beer, but a bit more carbonation would be good for both feel and aroma. Closes dryly, with lingering, heavy stickiness on the lips and palate.
