Calling your IPA "India Pale Ale" shows very little originality. Or maybe they're purists, which could bode very well for the beer itself. Doesn't really matter, let's pour...
Good-looking IPA, just as it should be: big fluffy head that lasts awhile sitting on top of a rusty pale-orange color. Leaves plenty of lacy trails on the glass too.
A fruity, sugary aroma hits the nose and stays there. Hops o'plenty, but nothing outstanding.
Flavor favors the hops, which have a grassy, rough, leafy bitterness. This would be overkill and one-dimensional in a lesser brewer's hands, but here the malts give a syrup-sweet backup, balancing, adding depth. Coarse bitterness meets candy-like gooey sweetness, along with a superbly creamy yet tingly mouthfeel which isn't too heavy or too thin. The almost exotic spiciness in the finish pushes this over the edge and gets close to "outstanding" territory.
The mouthfeel and hop-balancing sweetness almost veer into DoubleIPA-land. But not quite. This IPA stays true to its name. It's just plain delicious, but maybe due to its decidedly snappy bite and spicy finish, maybe not an IPA for all days and all seasons. I'm definitely bringing some back down to VA next time I head to NY.

12/11...pours medium amber, on the lighter side, 3/4 inch white foam. Bready toffee nose. Sharp citrus. Sour citrus open, light bitter. Really light bodied, a little watery even. Small flavor, but easy and even if that's what you are after.

sweet overlapping bitter with finish
