This was poured into a pint glass at the brewpub. The color is dark and opaque with a small head that is retained fairly well. It has a faint roasted grain aroma with no trace of hops. The flavor is dominated by rich roasted grains with almost no hops, but it is very well balanced. It has a medium body with low carbonation.
Overall, this is a good example of the style. I also think it's a great session beer for sitting and chatting at the brewpub.

Had this beer on tap at Flossmoor, pre DLD. Pours a light black to dark brown and is transluscent. No real lasting head. Smell is dry roasty dark malt. Taste is same but thinner than the smell. Light bodied and drinkable, but just average flavorwise. No real flaws however.

I had this at the brewpub the night before DLD, served cold in a pint.
A - A dark cola-like brown w/ black cherry highlights adn a band of bone white capping and dissipating slowly
S - Nutty, biscuity and toasty w/ roasted cocoa w/ light vegetal odors
M - Malty, roasted and nutty feel w/ mild to medium carbonation and smooth consistency and gentle spice
T - A very tasty schwarzbier - the malt is smooth and dry w/ a slight nutty cream flavor. There is a dry grainy element and lactic flavor w/ pine tinges in the hop w/ earthy tobacco accents. The bready dark taste really satisfies.
D - Very tasty, a bit on the dry side, but very nice malt and smooth clean qualities. A bit roastier than most, but a fine American black lager all in all. Very quaffable I am glad I got to try this.

A - Served in a 22oz hefeweizen style glass. Opaque black with hints of crimson along the edges of the glassware. Creamy white head that's sticky and clings to the edges of the glassware as the schwarzbier is slowly consumed.
S - The body of the aroma is composed of malt and blackstrap molasses with hints of honey and a lingering sweetness.
T - Barley and black patent malt is balanced perfectly with just the right amount of hops. Honey and molasses from the initial aromas hit the back of the throat as the beer leaves the mouth. There is a slight hint of hazelnut that tarries after your first initial sip.
M - The mouthfeel is light, silky, and perfectly carbonated.
D - After consuming 22oz, I have to say that it was so delicious and perfect for the coming of spring that I ordered a growler to go. Very drinkable.

Served in a pint glass at Flossmoor Station 3/15/08. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!
Listed on the beer menu as 4.8% abv.
A: Served a black color with honey hints that lets a little light through. Creamy, light-tan head that leaves spots of lace.
S: Roasted malt and hops...pretty simple.
T: Dark roasted malt, and bitter citrus-y hops. As it warms, flavors of lemon pop through.
M: Prickly and spicy, from beginning to end, with and interesting "minty" feeling in the mouth at the finish.
D: Quite refreshing and ready for a warm spring/summer day for a session.

A - Pours a solid black with a thin brown head.
S - Roasty malt with hints of coffee grounds.
T - Deepy roasted malt and coffee. There is also a slight bitterness.
M - Thin to meduim and creamy.
D - This is a great schwarzbier that could be drank all day. It is obvious how this one won an award at the GABF this year.
