Had this on tap at Flossmoor on 4/23/10. Review from notes.

A - raisiny dark brown, no head. Mahogany hues in the light. 4.0

S - Lots of vanilla, oak, blackberries, and a light roastiness melded with sweet caramel. Rawr! 4.5

T - Robust, woody and vanilla abounds! Lots of roasted malt with caramel and toffee. Finishes with a bit of dryness. No alcohol presence detected. 4.0

M - Disappointingly thin. It's robust but lacks the body and carbonation to hold it up. 3.0

D - highly. aside from the body and carbonation issues, it's a good drinker.

Had this at the pre dld event. Review from voice recorder.

Served in a 9 oz plastic cup. Classy.

Served very cold with no head. Color is a deep brown with a caramel hue around the edge.

Aroma: Big bourbon notes with a lot of sweet flavors. Rich and malty. The aroma is very well done and gets better as if finally warms up a bit.

Taste: Huge bourbon notes. Oak flavors, vanilla, caramel. Lots of sweet flavors. Some rich silky chocolate. The aroma is awesome. Some sour cherries in there. Maybe some raisins and licorice. A perfect amount of bourbon for the beer.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, refreshing. Medium bodied with a lower amount of carbonation. Ends with bourbon, relatively clean.

Overall, this beer is drinking very fast and I definitely want more. Easy drinking with a good body. Simply solid. Very pleased with this offering.

On tap @ Flossmoor Station (Flossmoor, IL) on 4/23/10 during the DLD pre-party. Served in a clear plastic cup.

Pours a deep ruddy brown, with almost no head to it. Maybe just a touch of brown mocha colored bubbles that pop up once in a while but overall, there was pretty much no head or lacing to this at all. The aroma is DEEP smelling with chocolate, vanilla, cherries, coffee, toffee, molasses, and charred wood. The accents from the barrel are VERY nicely integrated here and seem to blend effortlessly with the heavy flavors of the Killer. Neither one overpowers the other in the least.

Sweetness just drenches the mouth up front, with a big sweet & dark mix of cocoa, toffee, coffee, roast, and fruit. The Bourbon and barrel both add some extra notes of vanilla, char, and burnt molasses to the profile. These are once again pretty well integrated into that heavy base of the Killer Kowalski but do stand out a little more on their own than they did in the aroma. The finish is all leftover leafy hops, oak tannins, and some Bourbon warmth, which leads this into a fairly aggressive dry finish. The mouthfeel is full bodied, with a chewy slickness that sits with some heft on the palate. There's some warmth for the barrel going on here but otherwise, just like the base Killer, the alcohol is VERY nicely covered up.

I wish that we would get more BA Baltic Porters out there, as I think that (and especially in this case) they have more than enough depth and richness to match up well with what some barrel character could bring to them. Great stuff that I'm very glad to have been able to try.

A- Had on tap for the pre-DLD event. Pours an extremely dark ruby red color. No head to speak of, but I don't really expect it in barrel aged beers very often. No head=no lacing.

S- Huge black licorice nose with some chocolate and oak. A bit boozy as well, almost a medicinal type smell. I know it sounds like a bad thing, but it actually seems to work with this beer.

T- Black licorice, molasses and other sugars make their presence know in this one. Becomes a bit cloying after a while. Boozy and oaky to finish it out.

M- Nice heavy body, very creamy. No carbonation that I remember.

D- Pretty drinkable, but the overall sweetness gets to be a little much after a while. I would definitely drink this one again however!

Had on draft at Flossmore, it is a Bourbon Barrel Aged Killer Kapowski!

A-deep jet black in color with one full finger of a thick dark caramel head that dissipates relatively quickly and leaves a slight lace

S-huge nose of bourbon with big notes of coffee, chocolate, and molasses. a faint citrus hop sets in towards the end.

T-this is delicious, light taste of bourbon (much lighter than the nose and is not overpowering at all) huge malty sweetness comes in next with dark chocolate, hints of coffee, and some dark fruits with a citrus hop towards the finish to balance this malt bomb out.

M-this is extremely smooth, a lighter end of a full full body with very low carbonation in a great way with a slick feel on the back of the throat

D-this is so smooth, sweet and robust, i'd drink a million but i need to drive back to pittsburgh...can't even taste any alcohol but i'm guessing its relatively high?

If I could describe this in a word, it would be "creamy"

Killer Kapowski aged 5 months in an oak bourbon barrel (9% ABV). 2009 vintage tried tonight at the brewpub. I believe it was just tapped yesterday.

Frothy dark head smells more like bourbon than wood at first but the wood notes eventually become strong enough to overpower the bourbon as it warms in the glass.

Tastes of chocolate and coffee with a little bourbon. Very, very creamy.

The bourbon flavor is a tad stronger than your typical barrel aged beer, however, it is a "soft" whiskey taste - probably from using heaven hill barrels. In other words, you can taste the bourbon, but it is not a hard, powerful whiskey taste.

Ends with a short, spicey finish that reveals some black pepper.

(Served in a snifter)
Killer Kowalski aged in Bourbon barrels
A- This beer has a jet black body that lets no light in at all. There is a tan creamy head that soon vanishes. There is no sign of carbonation but there is a bit of broken lacing from the ring of head sliding back into the body.

S- This beer has the smell of wet wood and a big bourbon note that comes through even as the glass is set on the bar. There is a hint of vanilla and some black malt that comes through only when the beer has warmed a bit.

T- The taste of wet oak with a softer hint of vanilla come through but are followed by a black malt bitterness and a prune hint. There is a cream and tart note that comes through at the finish with some chalk qualities to it. There is a soft bourbony alcohol note that lingers after the finish.

M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a slippery texture and a tight fizz at the finish. Although there is some alcohol taste there is not much alcohol heat in the mouthfeel.

D- This beer has a big barrel flavor and some porter qualities peaking through. It does a nice job of showcasing the barrel without being to boozy.
