On tap @ Flossmoor Station (Flossmoor, IL) on 4/23/10 during the DLD pre-party. Served in a clear plastic cup.

Pours a deep golden burnt orange, with a thin frothy head of bright-white foam. This stays rich on the edges, leaving a frothy cascade of foam behind. The aroma has a boozy and charred tinge of Bourbon going on with it up front, while a thick mix of vanilla, bread, caramel, and some tart fruit quickly comes up behind it. I'm also gettting some grassy character and a bit of wood on the edges. Just very sweet and warm overall in the nose.

The taste has a big base of sticky grainy sweetness and ripened fruit, with a bite of hops in the back. The Bourbon lays a warming sting on the outer edges of the profile that then pulls together into the back of the profile with a good bit of dry wood, spice, and yeast in the finish. The mouthfeel is fuller bodied and prickly on the tongue, but then softens up some the more it lays on the palate. There is a beefy presence to this but most of the alcohol seems to be coming from the barrel flavor.

This was tasty. The Bourbon flavor was well belanced here and didn't run over the sweeter aspects of the base at all. This was a pretty easy sipper for the size as well. I really nice barrel-aged selection here.

this was an interesting one...nice. a bourbon barrel-aged strong golden belgian ale (9.5%). apparently last year's 12th anniversary brew (i'm not familiar)

best head of all the beers by far. the liquid below is a hazy light nut brown (not quite as "golden" as advertised but, for categorization's sake, farther from dark)

smells of bourbon, certainly. but plenty of sweetness and fruity esters shine through, too. to a certain degree the aroma makes me think less of bourbon than the barrels

the first sip is surprisingly tangy, more so than the avg belgian yeast provides, so i imagine the oak has something to do with it. fruity, too (nectarine), to the extent that i might have suspected wine barrels were involved, as well. sweet but not at all sugary, and a little butterscotchy

Pours a cloudy brown color with two fingers of creamy, short lived white head.

Scent of sweet whiskey, tart fruit, wet oak, sugars, caramel, yeast, and a touch of oxidation. The barrel aging had a nice effect on this one.

Taste of bittersweet whiskey, grain, caramel, sugar, oak , and spicy alcohol. Very tasty, balanced well considering the strength of the whiskey.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with a nice pinch of alcohol.

(Served in a snifter) This is the 12th anniversary beer aged in bourbon barrels
A- This beer pours a hazy pale dark orange color with a creamy off-white head that fades to a ring pretty quickly. No sign of carbonation.
S- The big fresh oak and bourbon aroma takes on more vanilla notes as the beer warms there is also an overripe pineapple note in the finish.
T- The big bourbon sugary flavor has hints of fusel alcohol and some caramel notes with a buttery note coming through as it warms. The finish has a tartness of orange fusel notes but turns into a dry spice with faint cola notes as the beer warms.
M- This beer has a light mouthfeel with a soft alcohol note.
D- This beer has a nice flavor with a great barrel aged quality and some orange and caramel flavors that work well together. Big beer but very easy to drink.
