Poured from a 650 ml bottle into a standard pint.
A: Dark brown. Pours a slight, brown-white head, which settles into a smattering of foam very quickly. A bit of sparse lacing.
S: Baked rye bread and hickory smoke.
T: Nice baked bread flavor and a deep smoky tone. Cinnamon in there, too.
M: Deep and rich. The smoky finish lingers. A little peaty in the finish.
D: Mmmmm....
Atmosphere is decent enough. Dark appearance and nice little head. Nose is simple but full....grain and smoke. Woody and very smoky flavor rules the day here. Overall, this is a good quaff.

I remember being traded this at a Dark Lord Day.
Say 2011 or 2012, both dates make sense. I remember trading one bottle of the previous year's Dark Lord for this with minimal persuasion. I had many, the man trading it had few, so this seemed like a good deal.
And then the people around me immediately started yakking about how I got scammed, somehow. Can't remember how. But I had like 8 of the beer I traded so I just traded it.
But still this weird feeling of having been ripped off always lingered and so I never opened this until now, right now, when I absolutely do not care.
A good pssst sound when the cap is popped. The initial aroma is kind of sour.
Lively pour into a chalice, showing its age admirably. Fizz when poured, medium-dark ruby, a bitty wisp of a head.
The aroma is aged. Not sour. Well, somewhat sour, but not super sour. Nothing wrong with the brew. Just age.
Ripe apples, raisins, alcohol, gingerbread. It's messy but nice.
The flavor is, again, messy but nice. Not great. But nice. Raisins and apples up front. Bittersour aged grain in the middle. And then in the finish it's like oh my god this is a smoked beer? Seriously?
Once again, it's very messy. But nothing about it is bad. Just not particularly artful.

Like Ol Tommy Brady, this has likely seen better days. Light watery smoke and sardines coupled with a thin muted mouthfeel make this a bummer.

Bottle: Poured a deep clear brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cherry wood smokiness with some light roasted malt notes is very pleasing. Taste is a well-balanced mix between some cherry wood smokiness with some light roasted malt profile. Light chocolate notes and dry fruits are also noticeable. Body is a bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very nice example of the style which might have been even better with less age on this bottle.

22oz bottle into tulip
Hazed cola brown color with a thinner crop of beige head, quickly fading out into a collar of retention with some spotty lacing dotting the glass while drinking.
Subtle smokiness in the nose with roasted malts. Touches of chocolate sweetness and faint warmth.
Dark roasted malt flavor with raw dark chocolate and cocoa beans. Substantial, yet a bit faded smokiness runs throughout the profile. Finishes with mellowed alcohol warmth and a touch of sweetness.
Thinned out body, milder carbonation, chewy and sticky on the tongue. This was probably past whatever prime it might've had, although I was happy this bottle didn't experience some of the infections or off-flavors that others noted in the past.

Thanks Geist, served in a tulip. Beer is brown with a haze, almost no head, low carbonation. Looks like a beer.
Aroma is sweet and smokey with a mild bite to it. Interesting to say the least.
Beer is boozy, sweet with a nice underpinning of smoke and a decent finish. A little dry but not overly so. The ethanol is present in this beer pretty forward on the front and the high alcohol serves to thin out the body a little. I'd have it again but it wasn't the best beer I've ever had.

The beer is dark brown with a quarter inch of oily beige head. The aroma offers smoke, booze, oak. Reminiscent of a rauchbier. Smoke presence throughout with only a hint of sausage. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty tasty beer. I'm glad I got to try it.

A - Pours a dark black with an inch of off-white foam that left a ring of soapy bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S - There is a nice amount of smoke in the smell. Some nice roastiness is also poking through the smoke. I'm not the biggest fan of smoked beers, but the aroma at least is very inviting.
T - Starts out very sweet and then the smoke starts to creep. It never gets overpowering and mixes well with the rest of the flavors. There is a malty sweetness that seems to be a bit much for the beer but it doesn't ruin it completely. Overall I like the flavor but think it could become too much.
M/D - Smooth and creamy mouthfeel with just the right amount of carbonation. Its easy to drink except for the sweetness but it only knocks it back a little.

dark beer here, black as night as it pours out. A big cascading brown head comes up and over the top and then settles down into a half inch layer that hung around for the entire rest of the session. The aroma was vanilla, huge vanilla beer and light cafe like coffee notes. Some hints of roasted malts, but vanilla in a beer like I have never come across before. Not terribly sweet and fake, this was like whiffing good vanilla ice cream. As I take the first sip, wow. This beer is suprising the crap out of me. First off where is my 12 percent? This is soo smooth I really got caught off guard by my second glass. The vanilla explosion followed through on the taste, rich and creamy with light and sweet coffee notes following through on them as well. Really tight flavor here, smooth with a long drawn out finish that was sweet, delicate and drying
