Good name; bad beer. That's the gist of it. Pours a fairly clear orange color with a thin white head and a thin collar throughout. Smells like earth and old orange peel. Musty and kind of gross. A bit of garbage. It smells just a touch, just a tad of garbage can. Maybe old fruit? I don't like it. The flavor is similar and not an improvement. More fruit there, but odd. Very odd. Moldy clementine peel. This is quite bad. I'm sorry.

Poured from a bottle into a Funky Buddha snifter.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy amber color with just a small layer of off white head the goes away quickly.

Smell: Very herbal with some mildly sweet fruity notes. There is some spice from the yeast as well.

Taste: The dominant flavor is spice from the yeast. I'm picking up some herbal hints, some of which comes from the rosemary. There is some malt sweetness along with some citrus notes. The finish is mildly bitter with some sweetness as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with tingly carbonation that is on the mild side of medium. The finish is quite dry.

Overall: I think this is a nice beer. The herbal and sweet notes go together well, and the bitterness is nice but not dominant. I'm not picking up the alcohol. Would have another.

Bottled purchased at the brewery, ignoring the sound advice of Adam. Served in a Jester King tulip next to Hill Farmstead Anna - whoops.

A - A quick-dissolving white foam sizzles to a thick collar, some wisps and a few tiny dots of lace. Transparent dark golden body.

S - Rosemary, sharp and spicy Belgian yeast, tangerine peel, light peppery notes, and a hint of alcohol. Too much spice - can't really pick out the malt character.

T - Taste on the other hand is cloying sweet, with tons of honey, cereal grains, citrus, and straight-up sugar. Seems under-attenuated. There's some rosemary and pepper still present as well. Alcohol is thankfully better hidden.

M - Medium-full body, lower carbonation, surprisingly viscous and sticky. Seems too heavy, even with the listed ABV.

D - Not a very good example of the style - this had its ass handed to it by the Hill Farmstead offering. If you called this a tripel or BSPA I probably would have been forgiving.

Bottle shared by yourefragile. I hated it but didn't rise to the level of everyone else.

Beer is yellow and clear, moderately carbonated, and low retention on a white head. Looks fine.

Aroma is oddly spicy in a way that is familiar but hard to describe, definitely some orange peel but it has this almost bad Thai food component in there that I can't put my finger on.

Beer is thin and nearly undrinkable, it is harsh, sweet with this horrid tea-like astringency and bitterness at the end. Nope, not again.

a - Pours a golden orange color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of spices, oranges, wheat, and grains. A little weak and bland, not great.

t - Tastes of oranges, spices, yeast, pepper, grains, bread, wheat. Again, a little bland/weak.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a below average saison. Some light orange or citrus but other then that a bit bland. Good name for a beer but wouldn't seek it out again.

A- This beer pours a dense slightly hazy apricot body with a thick off-white head that last a good bit.

S- The clean soft fruity notes have some green hop hints in the finish.

T- This beer has a nice funk in the flavor that fades to a dry hop bite in the finish. There is a soft clementine note and a spice quality that comes through as the beer warms. There is some bitter notes that linger after each sip.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a soft alcohol warmth that grows a touch as the beer warms.

O- This reminds me more of a spiced tripel that is smooth with no rosemary or pepper stick out. It has some nice fruity qualities but no real saison yeast qualities.

A – Golden ice tea orange. Pours a white head that sits relatively low and doesn’t last very long.

S – Complex, and on the fruitier side of the style. Apple, pear, cinnamon, brown sugar, nectarine, and pumpkin pie. Some honey as it warms.

T – Lightly fruity up front with orange zest and pear. Bright pepper rolls up through the middle with strong herbal notes of sage. Finishes semi-dry, lightly acidic, and peppery. Delicious, spicy and refreshing.

M – Nice carbonation, but could use a bit more. Medium light body.

O – A nice saison on the brighter, spicier side of the style.

22oz bottle poured into large tulip glass

Pours a hazed golden orange color with a thin layering of white head. Retains with cloudy film and spotty lacing.

Some herbal qualities in the nose mixed with citrus and orange peel. Light spice followed by faint yeast funk and malty sweetness.

Faint herbal hoppiness up front, slightly bitter. Decent amount of citrus with orange peel and clementine, followed by peppery spice. A bit on the sweet side of things, with some bready malt and caramel, followed by Belgian yeast funkiness. Hints of pear and graininess, finishes a bit dry and sweet.

Fuller medium body, higher carbonation, sticky and prickly on the tongue. An alright saison, although this was nowhere near as good as the Brett version.

Thanks to MasterSki for bringing this, but not really.

A - Orangish beer with a foamy head that had moderate retention and a little bit of stick on the sides.

S - Smells overwhemlingly of rosemary with a little bit of peppers. Smells a little medicinal and a lot like perfumed soap. There is a bit of yeast as well.

T - Sweet, too much rosemary, pepper, sugar. Too sweet, too spiced and herbed, like a saison version of Gunga Galunga. Don't like this at all.

M - Medium bodied, lower carbonation.

O - I don't like this beer, and couldn't drink much of it. Some of the other reviews seem to give it a positive take, but it didn't work for me at all.

On tap at the brewery during Dark Lord Eve '11. Poured into a plastic cup.

A: Hazy orange body with a 1/2" head of frothy ecru foam that shows good retention and leaves some spotty lace. Nice.

S: Hugely herbal + spicy, with clove, cinnamon, rosemary, sage, and some peppery yeast phenols to boot. Really, really spicy, and I like it.

T: Spices open things up, and eventually meld with some sweet biscuity malt and light apple esters. A little heavy on the rosemary, but nice.

M: Smooth, slick medium body with low carbonation. I'm a fan, although more life would have been welcome.

O: Tasty beer. I'm usually not big fan of beers that add herb/spice adjuncts instead of just leaving those flavors to some hot-fermenting yeast, but in this case I think it was a success. I was able to pick up a few bottles, and really enjoyed the one that I split with a friend a couple weeks after DLE. I think this one will be great once the spices are allowed to mellow out a little bit, not that it isn't really tasty already.

A - Pours a clear golden color, thin collar, whisps. Really yellow for a sasion...like, REALLY.

S - Huge funk, sweetness, honey. The funk is almost a little too much, but the huge sweetness manages the help balance this out. Not that any of this is actually all that good...

T - Overly sweet, slight funk, honey water too sugary. The sweetness of this beer is hard to ignore. It's over powering, way too much, and just like drinking water spiked with sugar. Ugh.

M - Body is medium, good carbonation, but syrupy finish which I don't enjoy much.

O - This is a disaster from Flossmoor. Way too sweet and just not all that enjoyable. We cracked a Hill Farmstead Anna right after then and they're not even in the same galaxy. Can't recommend in the slightest.

pours hazy golden orange with a 1/2 finger head that left no lacing

smell is strong - rosemary and clementine peel really come through - bready malt - belgian yeast

taste is even better then the nose - i get everything i detected in the nose and more - spicy earthy citrus strong rosemary mint with a nice bready malt aftertaste

mouthfeel is ok - medium body with low carbonation - could have used more

overall - this was very refreshing and now i wish i would have bought more then one bottle

A- Pours a slightly hazy yellowish color with a thin white head. Head has little retention and leaves pretty much very spotty lacing at best.

S- Quite a bit of fruits, yeast, spicy, and pepper.

T- Taste has bit of funkiness to it nothing over the top and something that I could handle in a small amount. A good amount of yeast and spices here too.

M- Lighter side of medium and carbonation was on the lighter side as well.

O- I've had this one a couple of times, and though I don't hate it I know I could drink the whole bottle by myself.

The brew pours a rusty golden hue, hazy, and is capped with a big fluffy off-white head. Lacing ensues. There is the requisite Saison spiciness to be found - green peppercorn and clove - and the addition Paul Simon's ingredients of choice imparts only a modicum of extra complexity. The brew has a sweet and pale maltiness apparent, and a tinge of alcohol. Breadiness, spicy yeast and even some citrus is noted in both flavor and aroma. Overall, it is not a grand deviation from a standard US take on Saison, but it is well-executed.

Shared by whiterascal and poured into a tulip.

This saison was made in collaboration with an eatery in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. For a 15-barrel batch, Flossmoor added three pounds of peppercorns, 1.5 pounds of fresh rosemary and the peels from 20 pounds of clementines. The beer also did all of its fermentation above 80 degrees.

Carrot-orange and fairly cloudy. One finger of sand-colored foam fizzles away after a few seconds to a stoic medium ring.

Grainy nose. Tons of spicy pepper, honey, pear syrup, lightly toasted crackers and just a hint of rosemary. Aromatic, spicy.

Wow, super sugary flavor. Tons of honey and burnt sugar, some citrus peel and pears. After the finish — which does its best to wipe out the sweetness but can't take it all down — esters of pepper permeate the air in the mouth.

Syrupy medium body, light electric carbonation and very soft fizz. Just a bit of tongue-numbing alcohol.

Too heavy and too sweet for a saison. The flavor actually gets a little cloying after a while. A fatiguing glass to get through.

Poured from 22oz bottle. Shared at Flossmoor with betsona.

A- Pours a hazy golden orange color. One and a half finger cream colored head shows medium retention. Lacing on the sides of the glass was a mix between streaking and sheety lacing in some spots.

S- This is a spiced forward saison. Huge notes of rosemary, coriander, and light cracked peppercorn as well in the front of the beer. There is a hint of barnyard funk noticable with saisons throughout the aroma itself. Toward the middle the scents moved to more of a light funk with notes of orange and light darker fruits. Ending shows some clove, rosemary, and more citrus than anythign else. Alcohol is left in the ending of the aroma and fits perfectly there.

T- Light bready malts in the front of the beer mix well with a underlying herbal note of roasemary, coriander, and peppercorn. Hints of lemongrass also come through in the front of the beer toward the ending. Middle shows off some orange citrus flavors. Ending still has the malt bready backbone with citrus overlying that. To top it all off the rosemary and coriander make up the dominate flavor profile. Alcohol comes in the ending but very drying at best.

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good and a little lively for the style. Flavors left on the profile are bready malts, coriander, cracked pepper, and lemongrass are left on the palate. Aftertaste is drying alcohol, bready malts, with some spicing mostly rosemary. Flavors were actually well balanced I thought for the style. No off flavors were present in the beer. Medium high alcohol drying on the palate with each sip.

O- This beer brings me back to what I feel Flossmoor should be at right now. The flavors were crisp and just there in line with how I felt it should be. the ABV while high didn't affect the overall drinking . A very good beer that I'm glad Flossmoor bottled. Now lets do more beers like this Flossmoor!

Saison & Garfunkel pours up a bit heavy with enough effervescence to create a creamy white head that persists above the relatively hazy, deep peach golden-orange body. The zesty aroma showcases the spiciness from the peppercorns along with some phenolic overtones given by the yeast followed by hints of citric fruitiness from the clementines with just a touch of pleasant herbalness from the rosemary as it warms in hand. Alcohol is sharp! The flavor starts off a bit cloying, but the spiciness from the actual spice additions + the yeast eventually displaces the sweetness while some firm bitterness tries to round out the underlying maltiness creating a slightly (hot) harsh, off-centered sweetish finish that is honestly a little bit dissapointing. This one may come together with further cellaring, but it's a 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' right now. Here's to Tom & Jerry!
