Last Saturday, I decided I would check out Flossmoor Station at the urging of my fellow BAs. I rode my bike down the lakeshore trail to Millennium Park, then my bike and I took the Metra Electric train down to Flossmoor. Flsommor Station is right there at the Flossmoor, um, station, so it was easy to find.
The bar and restaurant are cozy and inviting, with a lot of large dark woodwork and train photos and memorabilia on the walls. There's even a model train that runs on a track high above the bar.
I sat at the bar, and was also able to order from the full restaurant menu. I tried the chili and the bratwurst, and both were tasty and excellent. The menu is hearty Midwestern fare, so if you're looking for fine dining, look elsewhere.
I received prompt and courteous service, and the bartender made intelligent recommendations about both food and beer.
All of the beer I had was excellent. My two favorites were from opposite sides of the spectrum: the Milky Way Stout and the Recession Ale (or Re-session Ale, as it was spelled out on the board). The Recession was a really flavorful and session-able English Mild, and at 3% ABV and $3 a pint, I would've had a lot more than one if I weren't so determined to try other brews. The Milky Way Stout was an excellent choice for dessert, rich and sweet without being cloying.
Overall? Excellent beer, good food, and a comfortable atmosphere, definitely worth the trip.
