Pours a transparent light golden color with a smallish white head. No lacing. Looks like some light apple juice. Smell is a bit spicy with some bready character, almost like crackers, underneath and a clean yeast flavor. Taste follows. Quite light in the malt dept. Clean upfront but then there's a nice little bitter bite towards the end. Only the slightest hints of metal and cardboard come through in the finish. They're not too off putting though. Nice and fairly clean, light with just enough flavor. Washed down my sub quite well while I watched the World Cup opener.

Poured from a bottle into a Sam Adams stein. Very clear, light gold in color, and sports about 2 fingers of rocky white head (not as much as I expected, despite a pretty rough pour). The nose is delightful. It's sweet and malty with notes of fresh bread and bartlett pairs.

Light body and a clean, malty flavor with just a hint of hoppy spiciness. The beer is nice and sweet with low bitterness. The noble hops at mid-palate mix with the malt and infuse an apple-like flavor into the beer. Very pleasant and easy-drinking, but lacks any malt complexity. A beer to be enjoyed with a meal, not much more.

When I grabbed this bottle of Moosbacher I didn't realize I'd tried the Kellerbier... and I wasn't terribly impressed. Let's see how the Helles goes.

A -- Clear gold color with a smooth off-white head that doesn't hold up long.

S -- Hmm. Can't say I've ever smelled diacetyl in a bottled German lager -- not a good sign. Not much more pushing through the butterscotch.

T -- Same diacetyl right up front with some malt graininess and the slightest bit of spicy hops in the finish.

M -- Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a medium body.

O -- Got this off the shelf of a largely reputable, small-chain liquor store in the Chicago area. Can't tell by the dating code how old this is (have to look into it), but I'm just a little disappointed at how off this beer is.

Appearance, wheat field yellow with at quickly disapearing head and almost zero lacing.

This brew smells like a rising dough that has begun to sour a bit.

The taste is grassy and crisp with a Metallic sticky finish.

The mouth feel I think is right on target for the style and leaves little for wanting.

This is a good beer for the guy wanting to try something different. It's not far from Bud or Coors in style but amazingly better and tastier.

500 ml flip top bottle poured into pint glass.

Munich Helles Lager's are my favorite style of brew, so I'm always looking to try new ones. Had never heard of this stuff, but as a genral rule, I will always buy a German Lager I come across if the price is right and I've never sampled.

A - A bit darker than most lagers, a light golden brown with a bit of haze to hit, suprising for a lager. Thin head, only about a 1/2 an inch, and that was after an aggressive pour. Lot's of carbonation visible and bubbling.

S - A touch of hops, mostly malt and even a touch of grass. A hint of dankness too.

T - Very tasty. A perfect mix of malt and hops, and a general "fermenty" taste. A touche of general fruitiness to it, as well. Not far off from other Munich Helles', not a lot going on, but damn tasty.

F - Could've been because I drank this shortly after a football practice, but this was incredibly refreshing, and gave it a perfect score in that regard. Got my fizz fix, was easy on the throat and stomach, and went down incredibly easy.

O - A damn good lager. Plenty of taste, yet extremely refreshing. A great representation of the style. Based on the small amount of reviews here, doesn't seem to be a lot of this going around. But if you still see this stuff, any quality lager fan should grab this.

Almost three fingers of head on a hazy, medium straw colored body.
The aroma is faint overall; a little grain. Should have a lot more going on here.
The taste is light bitterness with some graininess to it.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
Not great, not bad.

Poured from a porcelain top bottle, this bright yellow brew clung briefly to the side of my glass. Refreshing and crisp it is pleasing to the taste and nose. The head as mentioned quickly dissipates but still not bad , better than most. I would gladly drink this again although I would not search it out.

pint bottle poured into glass

Appearance: pale yellow similar to most light lagers with little head and lacing

Smell: typical lager, a little spice nip layered with hop

Taste: Sweet of minor fruit kind of like an apple cider flavor.

Mouthfeel: Light but not airy like most light lagers.

Drinkability: easy and quite appealing more than originally anticipated.

500mL bottle, as pictured above:

The beer poured a clear yellow with hints of orange and appeared to have a smoky quality to it as well. That is the best way to describe it. I have never seen anything like it before. The beer poured a one-finger head that dissipated quickly and did not leave a cap of any lacing.

The beer gave off a malty/grain aroma and also had an unusual sour-ish aroma as well. That was very unexpected.

The flavor of the beer was mostly grainy, with perhaps a slight floral hop to it, but it was very light.

The beer had a light feel to it. The beer was clean and smooth. Overall, not a bad beer, but certainly not the best representation of the style. I doubt that I will pick this one up again.

1/2 liter flip-top bottle.

Clear yellow colored beer with a medium sized head.

Smell is strongly of grain and noble hops. Strong grass and herbs from the hops and it is mildly spicy.

Starts out mild and slightly bready without a strong flavor. Herbal hop dominates the flavor after a bit, just not much malt to hold it back. Fairly dry but there just isn't that much taste here.

Mouthfeel is average.

Overall this is OK you certainly are not going to choke on flavor.

This isn’t a must try beer.

Poured in tulip glass from 500 ml bottle.

A- Not a lot of "pop" on opening swing top bale wire. Honey gold. Soapy head, thick but not too tall, that leaves intermittent lacy lacing

S- Sourish, malty, musty, woodsy maybe?

T- Herbal but not sure which ones! Wheat bread taste going on. Definitely stands out from other Bavarian lagers but I'm not sure what it is exactly.

M- Not tons of carbonation but sufficient. Pretty refreshing and I'd say unique. Finish drops off to pretty clean.

D- Pretty high. Think it cost $3.50 and Cap n' Cork. I'd do it again, though I'd like to try it on tap to compare some of the flavors that may have to do with bottling and transport.
