A- 3.5 Muddy, hazy brown in color. There's a huge frothy tan head on the pour and it settles to a half finger throughout. The lacing is a little spotty and slippery.

S- 4 Right up front in the nose is a combo of semi-sweet caramel and hops. There's a bit of wheat present as well. It is a good blended aroma.

T- 3.5 There's a malt sweetness that is tempered by a wheat and grain-like finish. Unfortunately there's a metallic taste in this one common to many sips. The brew doesn't really have any bold flavors.

M- 3.5 Despite its monster head on the pour this actually feels under-carbonated. It's light in body and kind of watery.

D- 3.5 Not a bad brew by any means, but not all that exciting either. I'm a fan of dark wheats, so I had my hopes up for this one. It has some good things going on but isn't very complex. It's light and would be easy enough to drink a few, though I don't see myself wanting more than the big single.

Poured into an Euler stange. Pours a slightly hazy, medium-dark mahogany amber with a fine three finger off-white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of mildy sweet caramel malt, wheat, clove, light cola, spicy. Flavor of mild wheat, hints of caramel, nuts, toasted malt; finishes dry and bland with residual light wheat and clove. Light bodied. A nice smelling, but ultimately underwhelming weizen beer. Really quite a nice presention, and the flavor is fine, but it is very mild and unassuming. Meh.

This beer is appealing because of its pry off bottle which is highly uncommon is US beers.
Off the nose, it is very sweet, hints of caramelized banana and a strong scent of wheat.
The flavor is rather disappointing, minor sweet after taste, but with highly carbonated mouthfeel.

Overall, a disappointing beer. Overly sweet, yet bitter, which is off putting. Would not buy this beer again, not my preference. But I would encourage everyone to try it

A: The swing top let out a loud pop when the bottle was opened. The beer is very hazy—yellowish brown hues are visible near the edges of the glass and it appears dark reddish brown when viewed from afar. It poured with a two finger high off white head that has very good retention properties and hardly died down. The beer got murkier as I got near the bottom of the bottle and started to resemble apple cider.
S: Light to moderate aromas of bananas and doughy yeast are present in the nose along bits of sweetness.
T: The taste has flavors of bananas along with notes of apples and sweetness plus hints of clove-like spices.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer was quite fruity and yeasty and felt like it could have had more complexity in the taste and a bit more fullness in the body.

local mart recently started carrying a few of these from Moosbacher

poured into litre oktoberfest mug served about 50°
huge foamy head as a few other reviewers noted dark , good carbonation ,settles down slowly to 1" or so

nose -malt , absense of hops, honey in the background
taste -almost the same as nose don't notice the weiss as much with darker variety and has a honey finish
kinda bland actually and a little pricey $3.75 a bottle

i should have bought my usual belgian style ommegang

0.5l swing-top bottle. Pours murky brown beer with bubbly tan head, transforming into 2-finger foam in a few minutes. Relatively poor aroma: biscuits, raisin, banana. Actually watery taste as if sterling weizen was diluted, apple tartness, metallic tones, dull undertones. Inconsistent low carbonation, mild body. Disappointing experience.

This was an avearage dunkel that I truly wanted to rate higher yet I just couldn't do it. Someone out there might just love it but alasnot me. There are so many better choices. I bet it tastes great in Germany. That's what I also want to think...and I'm sticking with it.

Brown bottle with a swing top - 1pt. 9 fl oz. (500 ml)

Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse Dark filled my weizen glass with a brown color producing a 1-finger tan head that left behind hit and miss lacing. The nose is malty, sweet and cola like. The flavor is also dominated by malt that is nutty, of cocoa and raisins. Mouth feel is light-medium [for the style] and is not as smooth, rich or creamy as the better dunkelweizens I have had.

Moosbacher Schwarze Weisse Dark is not a bad beer by any means, however, falls short of the better and richer German and American dunkelweizens.

Appearance: Pours a clear amber with a huge head that is matched by its retention and lacing

Smell: Bananas and raisins, along with cocoa, nuts and a hint of clove, but there is a definite tart tone that doesn't appear appropriate

Taste: Banana and dark bread, with a developing cocoa, raisin and nut flavor; a little tartness arrives, after the swallow and dominates the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation; lacks the creamy mouthfeel of the better Germans

Overall: The label wasn't notched, so I don't know anything about the age of the beer; I have had this beer twice now and in both cases there were flaws, though not the same flaws; this review is a composite of both tastes but doesn't really capture either as the tart example didn't have the right fruity tones and the one that tasted like a hefe was very flabby
