Astonishing! A tart and sweet aroma of apple jumps out at you as soon as the bottle's opened. It's candyish, but at the same time very authentic! Every once in a while you come across an apple that smells just like this. I think of Pink Lady and Macintosh. It pours a hazy golden with a short creamy white head that drops shortly but holds a good collar and leaves some nice lace throughout the glass. The body is light and crisp in the mouth with a very fine and gently effervescent carbonation. The crispness is very reminiscent of a cool piece of fruit picked fresh from the tree on a brisk fall afternoon. The flavor offers the same candyish apple flavors upfront: sweet but not sugary, and tart but not mouth-puckeringly so. It dries in the finish, due more to acidity than bitterness (which is next to nothing) with a lingering apple flavor that is truly authentic. Clearly, the intention here was to reproduce the crisp, tart and sweet flavors of a fresh juicy apple and I'm quite impressed with the outcome. Clearly a benchmark of the brewer's art. Whether you'll personally like it or not remains to be seen. It's much more of a wine-like beverage than a beer. But for what it is, it's quite well done. Very interesting, enjoyable, and highly drinkable.

tried it in the bottle this time.
Why did the rating drop? Well, it tasted the same as it did the first time I had it. I was just less receptive this time. Probably had something to do with how hot it was that day. I don't like apple juice, or apples especially. And here we have a beer that has many of the same dynamics. My problem with apple juice is the acidity. My problem with Niagara Apple Ale is it's too much like apple juice. Very strong apple flavour.

So, if you like apple juice, by all means try this beer, it's still really good. It's tasty and refreshing, just not the right flavour for me.
