On cask at the Premium Beer Experience, into a sampler cup.

Dark brown with not head or lacing. Nose has pure cocoa qualities, like putting your nose into a bag of cocoa powder. Some lactose and sweeter malt qualities. Taste has more chocolate milk, cocoa powder and retains some qualities from the base beer (their RIS) in terms of some molasses and light roast subtleties. Powdery mouthfeel, almost chalky. Some alcohol and close to no carbonation. Great nose but the chalky quality of the mouthfeel does nothing for this.

Decent stout, in can at Stouts. Good balance between sweet and bitter, though nothing extraordinary in either, some sweetness and lactose and chocolate - all under control. Modestly bitter finish. Smooth mouthfeel, good drinkability. Not so imperial, that can throw people off in expectations.

Purchased at the LCBO for a steep $10.00 for a 750ml bottle. Served at 8deg C in a tulip

A- 4.25- Opens well and pours a nice nothing head that has no head! BLACK

S- 4.0- You can actually smell the required milk and such

T- 3.75- A bit less than expected. Not as many solids as expected at this price point

M- 3.50- Bit of a let down here.

O- 4.03. That is all. Not enough milk solids. Not at all

Food Pairing

This Ok milk stout went well with.... Pulled Pork sandwiches!!!

750 mL flip-top bottle equipped with a standard crown cap; best before Nov. 26 2014. I first heard about this beer's existence a little over a year ago, and ever since then I have been hoping Wellington would be able to get it into retail stores. My prayers were answered when I serendipitously discovered it on the shelves of my local LCBO. Served slightly chilled.

Pours black as night, topped with just over one finger's worth of soapy, tan-coloured froth. It gradually seeps away over the next few minutes, eventually culminating in a modest collar and a messy ring of lacing. Nice legs. The aroma is sweet but subdued, comprised mostly of milk chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, mocha coffee, and an unmistakable hint of red licorice candy.

A delicious, rich-tasting stout. Piles of chocolate, both of the milky and dark persuasions, immediately attack the forefront of the palate. Lactose sweetness, toasted malts and coffee also contribute, with a soft, mildly roasty finish that flawlessly masks the 7.2% abv. On the heftier side of medium-bodied, with relatively light carbonation that gives this stout an exceedingly silky-smooth feel in the mouth. Very quaffable for the abv; finishing this bottle solo shouldn't be too difficult for any stout or porter-loving BA.

Final Grade: 4.1, an A-. Wellington's Chocolate Milk Stout is a fabulous beer, and probably my favourite offering from this brewery to date. It is a dangerously drinkable sweet stout, with a surprisingly balanced, neutral flavour and soft mouthfeel that combine to form more than the sum of their parts. Awesome stuff, well worth a pick-up if you spot it on the shelves, and the flip-top is a nice addition (for re-sealing, or homebrewing purposes).

Part of the "Welly One Off" series...

Nicely put together, a solid winter beer. Certainly had strong hints of cocoa on pour - no noticeable head - almost black in colour. Mid to low level of bitterness, seemingly masked by the milkyness of the stout. Very little carbonation, easy to drink beer.

Hope they bring this one back for a second tour of duty.
