Kölsch |  6.00% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
The style of this ale is traditionally European, similar to a German kolsch: full bodied with a spicy hop tang and a rich, crystal clear golden color. Alcohol content is approximately 6% by volume.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a chalice.

About 2 fingers white thick head on a golden ale, that slowly decays and leaves decent lacing.

Buttery aroma, slight caramel and lightly herbal hopped.

Malty, well balanced with earthy hops, and that distinctive Ringwood yeast.

Mouth feel is perfect for this beer, slightly slick, hops just get slightly noticed and carbonation level just right.

Just what a Summer Ale should be. I'll get it again.

Pours a clear copper with orange highlights. Dense foamy off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Some lace

Smells buttery with some toasted toffee notes. Slight grassy undertones. Fruity yeast. Warm banana bread

Taste is similar to the nose. Very creamy at first. Butter and biscuits. Floral earthy hops with some resiny bitterness. Slightly assertive but a backseat to the buttery malts and fruity yeast

Feels creamy and smooth. More full-bodied than the normal summertime fare. Slightly coating

Overall not a good representation of the Kolsch style but not a bad beer. I was pleasantly surprised and would probably revisit. Also not what I would expect from a summer seasonal so a 6 pack might be a bit too heavy for a hot summer day

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

Pours mostly clear, but darker tinged and see through. 1/4 inch white foam sits on top. Starts to lace. Sweet caramel nose, citrus too. Malty. Taste is light, clean, crisp. Floral hop sits in the background. Ideal summer beer.,

12oz bottle poured into a stange.

A: Deep amber color with caramel hues. Huge rocky off-white head towers atop the beer for as long as it is in the glass.

S: Malts are sweet-ish with aromas of shortbread and angel's food cake buried beneath caramel and grain. Hops are floral and grassy with hints of citrus and tea leaves.

T: Strong malty pull with robust graininess, slight toast, caramel, and shortbread. Lightly buttery. Slight grape leaf impression. Hops are floral and grassy. Tea leaves and garden herbs come through toward the end. Bitterness kicks it up a notch to keep the malty sweetness in check. Finishes semi dry with tastes of caramel, toasted grain, and receding grassy hops.

M: Medium bodied. Slight weight and firmness. Moderate carbonation.

O: Certainly not your average summer seasonal. It comes across as an odd mash-up of English Pale Ale and Kolsch. I appreciate the change of pace and I did rather enjoy drinking it, but it wouldn't be the first thing I'd reach for on a summer scorcher.
