12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear deep mahogany brown with a short white head.

Aroma: Smells of earth, tea leaves, caramel, nuttiness, and some soft brown bread.

Taste: Caramel and malt are right up front, with the earth and tea leaf notes noticeable, too. Ever so slight sweetness. Nuts are there, too.

Mouthfeel: Nice depth - it's approachable and sturdy.

Overall: Very nice, simple, tasty brown ale. Great for a cool autumn evening. I had this with some vegetable soup and bread and cheese. Tasty pairing.

Lovely seasonal, one of the better craft brown ales I have tried. Somewhere between Avery & Smuttynose, and not quite up to New Holland Cabin Fever Brown Ale.

Appearance: Great chestnut, bright brown color. Head fades and leaves a few dots of lace.

Smell: Brown bread as made by my German friend. Husky, nutty, deep, without being alcoholic. Inviting. Wood, wood fire, and a bit of Maine hills in the mix.

Taste: I have to admit, there's good complexity and subtlety in this. A bit of that toasted brown bread served with coffee, butter, and gravy. A bit of fig butter too. Not too sweet, a nice blend of sweet malts and hoppy/ roasty bitterness. Good finish. Good with food.

F: Nice tingly finish for a brown ale. Leaves one in a good place. Easy to drink another.

As Alstrom wrote: "pour this one hard into a big stein to really appreciate" Truly a fall-winter beer, well done.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on December 24, 2013.

The pour is mahogany brown with a modest head that lingers. Modest head that does not last long. Good clarity.

The aroma is mainly malty and sweet with some caramel notes. Some sugary and sweet notes.

The body tends to be lighter with some acidity.

The taste has a decent sweet malty character with mild bitterness. It was a decent enough brew.
