Gazed golden yellow in color with an alabaster head of medium-large bubbles. Head is gone too quickly and lace is insubstantial. Looks average for style. Nose is somewhat fruity but also slightly soapy, a characteristic shared by the flavor. Sticky mouthfeel, an almost toffee like note of dactyl as well. Typical clove and banana are present but not quite to the extent of the highest rated hefeweizens. Not a bad drink but a little underwhelming overall.

Bottle from the LCBO gift pack. Poured into the accompanying Hirschbrau glass.

A pale, cloudy golden brew, left behind a sturdy, foamy head. Surprisingly good retention, lots of lacing to boot. Not too shabby at all.

Nose is mild, but pleasant. Notes of citrus, wheat malt, clove, a bit of coriander. Some floral aromas and bubblegum as well.

A decent-tasting weissbier, citrussy and refreshing. The malt character is surprisingly potent here; each sip yields a slightly nutty flavor to the finish. Thinner towards the end. Not nearly as much substance to this as can be found in the great German wheat beers, but certainly enough to be pleasing to drink.

Mouthfeel is a bit watery, carbonation is about right, perhaps a touch low. Because of the head's retention, there's a creamy texture to it as well.

No complaints here - refreshing and easy to quaff. It won't earn a spot among my all-time top hefeweizen list, but it goes down well, has some good flavors and pretty much does what it sets out to do. Not going to argue with that!

Pale yellow and hazy. Much like the dunkel weiss from this brewer, the head is small for the style and poorly retained. Intense aroma of fresh bananas with a hint of vanilla. As the aroma suggests, this weissbiers flavour profile leans heavily towards banana. Candy-like bubblegum and vanilla esters are also there, along with a tangy note that gives the sweeter flavours in this beer a little bit of balance. A bit of phenol could help give it some depth, but there is not clove or smoke to be found here. It tastes good, but very simple and on dimensional.

It's smooth with abundant fine carbonation that gives that sweet profile a lift, but also feels a little bit thin and watery. Hefeweissbier isn't a very heavy style to begin with, but this one still manages to feel a bit slight for the style. All things considered though, this is a light, quenching, pleasant, and inoffensive. Other examples of the style might show a bit more depth, but this simple pleasure would still have its place in my fridge from time to time.

Fantastic looking beer. First it comes in a nice reusable flip top bottle and pours into a light hazy brew with a big white head. Color is great because you can tell it is light, but has that slightly cloudy look that tells you there is an abundance of yeast in here. Somewhat tangy with a bananna like flavor which is what I love in German hefeweisse. This beer is excellent and compares with the others of it's class. My only knock, and it is really not a knock, is that it is not as full tasting as other German weisses. Perfect for warmer weather.

500ml bottle. Weizen glass. Golden color, chill haze appearance. Discrete, close, white froth.Intense banana & bread aromas, hints of DMS & estery notes on the backside. Sweet malty & slight floral bitter upfront. Medium body. Moderate to high carbonation. Dense to watery texture & dried mouthfeel. In the middle, low bitterness is overwhelmed by sweetness & lingers into a dry biscuit malt finish. Acidic touch in an estery aftertaste.

Comes in a stout brown half liter bottle with a stubby neck, swing top and a blue and white label featuring a huge antlered white deer jumping across a snow covered meadow with mountains in the background. Purity law applies. Best before 10/22/04, I opened it on 5/31/04.

Pours a cloudy bubbly yellow gold with a huge white head of excellent contour, good lacing and long life. There's a good crisp lemon and spice nose. The mouth is very prickly and light. The flavor is disappointing - very mild, with mainly yeast and wheat, but no spice and no fruitiness. A mild hoppy bite surfaces in the finish, but this seems out of place here. The aftertaste is all yeast. I expect, literally, more spice in my wheat beers.

Great head, banana / spicy nose. More phenols in the nose than in the flavor. Well balanced wheat/ester character. Great Hefe for those who like the phenol spicyness but think that Schnider has too much.

Turbid golden yellow in hue, topped by the epitome of weizen head. Thick, dense, bumpy, porcelain white, and stiff. Lightly nutty malt and mellow banana esters upfront in aroma, ensued by a hint of grainy tartness, malt sweetness and trace clove. Slightly tame, but clean aromawise. Snap of ripe banana initially in flavor is ceded by a combination of simply tart wheat and mild bubblegum laced sweetness. Phenols are slightly more pronounced in flavor, lending an undertone both lightly herbal and clove like. Suspended yeast makes its presence known mid palate with notes of subtle must and an of impression bland, unsalted nuts. Perfectly integrated hop bitterness is indirectly perceptible by its offsetting of malt sweetness and helps to lend excellent quaffability. Light in body and not quite proteinaceous enough, with a thinnish, yet pleasant mouthfeel. Finishes w/ a lingering mellow residual sweetness and hints of creamed banana. Quite an enjoyable hefeweizen. Somewhat understated, but unique in its overall character that's intermediate between the insipid American versions and a flavorful German. More esters and body and this would be a winner. Nonetheless crisp and quenching. Thanks for Jaybeerman for sending this tasty brew.

Bottle from the LCBO giftpack, best before May 5, 2011. Enjoyed this while my girlfriend sipped on a Weihenstephaner Weisse; nice to have one of the best beers in the world as a point reference while trying this. Into a pseudo-weizen glass.

Poured a slightly hazy golden yellow, with about a finger or so of white head. Nose of bananas, some phenols and some grain. Not a ton of wheat. Taste holds alot of the same, less banana, mild hops and some clove. Mouthfeel is moderate, but carbonation was a bit high and was almost fizzy on the palate. Good drinkability though, and fairly enjoyable. Doesn't really stand up next to the Weihenstephaner though.

500 mL bottle from a gift pack; best before Feb 23 2013.

Pours a pale gold colour, opaque and cloudy. The two fingers of sparkling white head that surge forth at the surface look promising at first, but that hope soon fizzles away in a matter of minutes, with a thin cap and very little lacing left behind. Looks relatively heavily carbonated if the bubbles are any indication. Reasonably appealing aroma with nothing out of the ordinary for the style - wheaty malts, banana and citrus with a weak clove spiciness buried beneath.

The flavour falls along the same lines, with a bready wheat malt backbone accompanied by a nice lemony presence and some light banana. Not particularly yeasty, and the clove is kind of hard to pick out amongst the malts and lemon. Light-bodied, with a solid bite from the carbonation. Kind of watery, which is not an endearing trait in hefes. At least it's crisp and refreshing, so drinkability is not an issue.

Not one of the better hefes I've had recently, but I guess it's a sufficient one as it meets most of the prerequisites for the style. Palatable enough, but a little bland compared to many of its wheaty brethren.

Final Grade: 3.23, a mediocre C+. Weisser Hirsch is a serviceable brew, but not a memorable one, and it certainly doesn't come close to some of the classic German hefes in terms of quality. I like it more than Erdinger I guess, but I can think of plenty of others I'd pick first. This works fine on a hot evening, but it's not something I plan to revisit or recommend.

500 ml bottle with the normal cap. Big head that last for a while but leaves no lace.Pale golden colour, not too cloudy. Smell of banana and cloves, not much here. Taste of banana, cloves, floral hints, silky flavor and a metallic touch.
Shy beer, I'd say in the middle of nowhere .Drinkable, yes, but there's not many things to say about it.

Scored this 4-pack mixer pack for my b-day...

A - Pours a hazy murky orange with a light brown hue, finger of head with little retention and no real lacing.

S - A tad mild. Sweet cloves and hints of bananas and cinnamon. Buttered bread and wheat with a touch of grassiness on the finish.

T - Much like the nose with the cloves dominating off the top and a buttered bread and toasted grain flavour coming through on the finish. A tad mild and unadventurous but still enjoyable on a summer evening.

M - A tad thin and could use a carbonation lift, goes down smooth, finishes wet.

O - A tasty hefe with decent flavours and easy drinking. Nothing that will really blow you away, but it is certainly approved for patio drinking.

From a gift pack at the LCBO. Pours a cloudy pale yellow with a thin white head.

Smells like a typical Hefe, some cloves and spices, banana, fruits and yeast.

Fruity and spicey upfront. Some cloves, orange, banana, but not very complex. It could use some more depth.

Seems sort of watery with a nice carbonation bite. Not the best Hefeweizen I've had but it's not bad either, nice and refreshing.

Pours cloudy lemon gold with loose white froth that's gone in a flash with no trails. Honey lemon cough drop nose.
Dough heavy with lemon drop up front, a waxy middle hit, and light grassy hops coming after. Dies on the finish but tingly linger. Light, crisp, lively, surprisingly sticky.

Insubstantial. Fruit (i.e. banana) seriously AWOL. I need to leave this brewery alone, in spite of their pop tops and pretty labels.

Classic Hefe Weizen. Cloudy gold color...hefty looking body. Monster head. Classic banana, clove, lemon. Wheat flavor is fresh, lightly toasted. Tart shifts to doughy then to fruity with hints of pineapple followed by yeasty spicy clove. Mouthfeel is smooth with reserved carbonation. This brew has got all the finest qualities of the best Hefes.

Pours a heavily clouded straw gold with minimal off white head. Nose is heavily yeasted with enough of a citrus tone that it provides character, but does not remain overdone. Seems to be a bit of tree tar fragrance there as well. Flavor seems to be a disappointment after what I get off the look and the nose. Very light profile with a tangy, young, immature lemon like flavor hitting the back of my mouth. Feel is of lower carbonation with little bubble going over my tongue. Drinkable, sure. But I don’t find this a really powerful and homerun hitting hefe. From the start I figured this might be interesting off the look of it and the nose, but I felt it didn’t really live up to that.

Despite its golden colour, this Hefeweizen is characteristically cloudy. I'd like to think I can take more than partial credit for that having given the bottle a hard swirl before pouring in the last few ounces. Part of me, however, notices the dim complexion and worn-out tone and wonders if the beer might just simply be this dull by nature?!

The fact that its head is completely parched furthers my suspicion (like the lightning before thunder I knew instantly from the sound of crackling that it wouldn't be long before all the white stuff faded from the surface). Its aroma, on the other hand, brimming with banana, bubble-gum and wheat scents, suggests an animate and lively beer.

But smells, like looks, can be deceiving. Weisser Hirsch has an agreeable flavour, but it's one that lacks the expected level of peppy phenolics and tart citrusy flavours while at the same time is being way too generous with the Pils malt character. There is some clove and banana, but the bready taste of sweet Pils malt vastly exceeds them both.

The brewers got about half the mouthfeel equation right; the wheat is enough to lend a creamy fullness and the carbonation is strong enough to leave lasting imprints all over your palate. With just a little more zest and a few more esters, this could be one seriously refreshing weissbier... and if I were a few inches taller I could dunk a basketball. So what.

I liked this Hefeweizen even though it couldn't honestly hold a candle to Germany's best. While it leaves the difficult and more demanding palates with plenty to bellyache over, anyone not looking to make a fuss and just enjoy a simple pint of wheat beer should be fine to skip their yammering and just drink up. That's what I've decided to do.

A - Light cloudy, light toffee colour.

S - Light citrus and wheat.

T - A light malt and stronger wheat mix. There is also a hint of a bittering hops on the after taste.

M - Heavy in the beginning lighter on the aftertaste.

O - Not to bad, but not overly impressed.
