Shared 500 ml can, from a corner shop in London. ABV is 6.5%. Amber colour, moderate to low head, slightly off-white. Very moderate aroma, a little malts and caramel. Malty flavour with caramel, some hops in the finish.

Picked up recently, but best before 10/30/15, wish I looked at that before buying.

Pours a decent fizzy slight fluffy, decent lacing, crystal clear chestnut auburn color.

Nose typical macro like bock, some biscuity candy wheat, caramel, creamy wheat, toffee and nutty notes, but also yeasty and soft metallic note, mild fruity esters, candied fig and raisin, touch paper oxidation.

Taste brings the same, dried candied fruits out front, fig date flavours, fruity esters, into syrup notes, candy sweet toffee and caramelized wheat, touch biscuity, and bit nutty. Faint paper oxidation, touch of grassy hop bitterness. Finish sticky syrupy, lingering candy syrup toffee caramel and candied fruit.

Mouth is med bod, bit syrupy, decent carb.

Overall not bad, wasn't expecting a whole lot, but it was fairly decent, a hint of oxidation, bit too syrupy, otherwise pretty good.

Best before 05.07.2016

Dark amber body; thick, foamy off-white head. Deep malt and caramel aroma infused with a nice boozy edge. The flavor delivers a heavy caramel and toffee sweetness; brown sugar; roasted nuts; a touch of bitterness at the finish. Heavy body; smooth and velvety; mildly sweet and bitter finish.

This is an incredibly deep and complex that comes across more like a quality doppelbock more than anything else. There is amazing balance across the taste spectrum and is rich and chewy on the palate. A must try for lovers of bocks and doppelbocks.

Light brown beer with very thin beige head. Aroma and taste are all malt, hints of wood and peat. Right in the lane for a dunkler bock, but not exceptional.

ZIEWIEC BOCK 12/27/15

Poured from the 16.9 oz. bottle into a Tree House stemmed tulip.

a: Clear ruby/copper with a finger thick offwhite head which receded quickly to thin surface foam and spotty lacing.

s: Mild caramel malt

t: Toffee malt and some ripe fruit notes with a medium and sweet to dry finish.

m: Medium, good body and plenty of carbonation tingle.

o: A tasty and enjoyable brew, if perhaps leaning more towards an English bitter than the German bock style. A fine autumn to spring warmer.

Pours a brilliant chestnut brown ("cola") in color, topped with a darker offwhite/pale tan head.

Nose is very clean and lightly-malty, with just a hint of alcohol and some lighter roasted malt (darker malt) grain character. Seems like it may be just a little bit sweet -- oxidation?

Sweet, rich malt character on the first sip and (yep) a touch of oxidation.* Nary a trace of bitterness as this one coasts the palate and has me immediately wishing there was a bit more malt depth, a bit more booze... is it doppelbock season, yet?

Good mouthfeel, but not great. Sweet, moderate carbonation, easy-drinking... but with little malt depth and no ho character to speak of. This one puts a fine point on the notion of what it means to say: "average for the style".

And while it's only average for the style, it's a style that I like. So I wouldn't mind seeing this one around more often (and fresh), but I'm thankful to be spoiled enough to have at least a couple of seasonal bock brands available to me.

*"Best before 10/30/2015", and this one is just a bit past that. Ordinarily that wouldn't bother me in a stronger, malt-focused beer style. Here it's just proving the point that it's important to read those codes when ya can! :)
