Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.
The color is a dark copper with a finger of foamy brownish head and some slight lacing.
The smell is malts at first with some sweet dark fruit flavor. There is a bit of a spicy flavor with the bitter hop flavor hiding way in the background of the aroma.
The taste is a little biscuity flavor with some slight roasty flavor. There is a little bitterness again in the far background that hangs back for a bit before a sweet toffee flavor.
The feel to this beer is medium to light with a nice drinkable feel. It goes down well and makes for a good session ale.

Pouring to a cloudy brown color, Headwell Alt has a light aroma of bread and roasted malts. The head of foam looks very nice and it does leave some good lacing as you consume.
Tasting this beer reveals a product that is approachable and it certainly grows on you. The beer has a flavor that follows from its nose, with the tastes of roasted malt, biscuits, bread, some dark fruit, caramel, toffee, and some earthy hops. Nuts and malt seem to be the dominate flavors here and there is only a small touch of bitterness.
This beer is a tad on the sweeter side and while nothing amazing, it is an agreeable, everyday brown ale that most will find good enough to recommend. As I said, it is very approachable and makes a good choice when you want some brown ale to serve guests and don’t want to offend anyone.
