Notes/Commercial Description:
ALTitude – Altbier with Attitude, is a limited edition release of the original recipe for the Headwall Alt. The original pilot batch was smooth, malty, full bodied but too high in alcohol (7.5% abv), to become the “session beer” Headwall Alt. Too strong to be a classic Altbier, but too good to forget, we knew we wanted to one day brew this novel beer again and share it with you. Like the Headwall Alt, the ALTitude is cold conditioned, dry-hopped and krausened in the bottle or keg. The process takes about 60 days.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an Oct '12 expiration date. Sampled on January 28, 2012. According to their website this is a Schtick-Alt beer, which is similar to an Alt with a higher ABV. The pour is an attractive dark amber with a long-lasting boisterous head. The aroma is full of sweet malts and mellow hops. The body is medium to full. The taste is splendid with malty sweetness, a little yeast, licorice, and all balanced by a dry hopped ending.

12oz bottle poured into a Smuttynose Big Beer series glass (tulip-ish)

Fills the glass with a deep dark brown body and beautiful creamy tan head on top. A bit of sticky lace clings to the glass as it slowly fades.

A strong malt forward aroma with notes of dark fruits like prunes and raisins. A good bit of caramel sweetness goes along with this as well as a slight hint of cocoa.

Taste matches up well the with aromas, giving you a nice variety of fruit and caramel notes. A mild hop character along with just a bit of warming spice note balances it all out.

Mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied. Overall, ALTitude makes for a nice addition to the Tuckerman lineup. I drank the Headwall Alt quite a bit in my early days of craft beer and this brings me back to those days... just with a bit more punch this time.

Shout out to mjn5036. Thanks Matt! 12oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. Pruney brown body with a finger of dusty head receding to a wispy cap, spotty lacing. Dark fruits on the nose along with some spice notes. Dark roast flavors abundant alongside strong coffee and dates. Thick full bodied beer with good carbonation to keep it from being too heavy. A very good Alt. I knew nothing about the brewery let alone the beer when I got it. A definite surprise and joy to drink. I'd love to see six-packs of this in my grocery store. A winter seasonal worth looking forward too.

Bottled on 10/01/13, gotta love bottling dates.

Pours a large fizzy frothy thick 2+ finger head that fades pretty slowly, some spotty lacing, very dark mahogany brown color with hints of light coming through.

Nose nice brown malts, little nutty, caramel, syrupy, with some earthy spicy hops, fresh wort, and mild boozy aroma.

Taste brings more brown malts, sweet and a bit syrupy, candy syrup with caramel and nutty flavors, mild boozy taste and warmth, more sweet fresh wort. Also some earthy hops, faint pine and forest floor, mild to fair bitterness. Finish is dry and not really sticky either, mild bitterness, bit more earthy hops, caramel, nutty syrupy flavors lingering.

Mouth is med to a bit bigger bodied, lots of carbonation perhaps a bit too much, touch of booze warmth, bit syrupy.

Overall meh, an OK beer but nothing too special, a bit over carbonated, not hoppy enough for the style, more like a big brown ale than an alt. Then again, it is pretty tasty and enjoyable.

Pours a two finger khaki head that fades slowly to thin layer leaving some lace. Dark brown color. Light-medium carbonation and medium-heavy bodied. Malty caramel nose, flavor is similar, chewy caramel with hops balancing. Decent Alt. $2.95 for a 12oz bottle from Bert’s Better Beers Hooksett, NH.

Modest bar-pour head, but it lasts a long time. Brown colored liquid where a bit of light shines through. Leaves a slippery coating of lace; streaky.

Good blend of toasted crystal malt and mild floral hop aroma.

There's an element of mildly burnt malt to the otherwise toasted flavor. Good hop presence that lasts through the swallow. Short aftertaste. Thinish body with a high carbonation. The hop provides a balancing spice--this isn't a malt heavy beer.

Poured on-tap and served in a tumbler pint, the beer is a clear, orange-brown coloring with a foamy, off-white head that is tall and chunky. Toffee and nut sweetness on the nose, both smooth and strong. Boozey tones on the tongue, which are also strong, balance with old world fruit sweetness, including nut, date and fig. Roasty and slightly bitter throughout. Very rich and roasted aftertaste, as well. Sweet, dark, lingering finish. Very strong and pretty damn tasty.

Great winter warmer beer.

Appearance: Great plumb color - yummy. Not a ton of foam. You need to work to get get more than a fingers worth.

Taste: is what sells this beer. Smooth yet complex flavor.

Mouthfeel: creamy and smooth. The bottle conditioning comes through. Just enough carbonation all without any extra C02 added to the beer.

This is Tuckerman's best beer.

First got to get this off my chest... why on earth would say good things about a beer then give a mediocre rating? Are New Englanders tough raters. I've had beers in top 100 that are not on par with this one. Its sometimes all about the hype. The reason I bring this up is because of this beer. It is an exceptional version of an altbier. it's pretty exceptional beer.

I judge because the first time tried, it really impressed me. Color, aroma, taste everything. I am very much looking forward to its release. Love the local...for once.

Pours a deep brown, slightly cloudy with garnet highlights when held to light. Bubbly frothy tan head shows some staying power and lots of sticky lace. Heavy toffee and caramel on the nose with hints of butterscotch, light fruit, and ethanol. Faint hint of earthy hops, but this one smells like its a gonna be sweet. My nose certainly didn't steer me wrong this is a sweet beer. Lots of toffee, butterscotch, caramel and brown sugar, bits of fruit and earthy hops. Medium to thick body with a moderate level of carbonation and a creamy sugary mouthfeel. This grew on me, but it really needs something else. Maybe some more hops, or something else to cut through the almost over bearing toffee sweetness.
