A: Very light golden lager. Good head retention and lacing
S: Moderately hopped brew. Good aroma.
T: Very good here. A nice german lager. I really enjoyed this beer. A light hop flavor.
M: Light yet with body. Not very filling yet you know you're drinking beer when you have one of these.
D:Very good. They go down so well. Just a good quality beer.

I had this from a 5 litre mini keg and loved it. My Dad sent it to me as a gift and it turned out to be a very good one. I would drink this beer again faster than a bum would cash in a lottery ticket. Nice hop aroma.

500 mL can purchased from the Niagara Falls LCBO.

Minimal white lacing, some stickage here and there. Pale golden yellow color, shiny clarity. Horse feed aroma, faint but its there. Crisp and light bodied. Bitter and a little astringent. Rough grain from start to finish, bitter hopping does not help at all. Finishes bone dry.

German Purity Law What? This beer gives German beer a bad rap, not recommended.

Clear medium gold color, average to large-bubbled white head of 1/2 an inch to start and average duration. Decent lace, some adhesion of clumps of foam. Lightly aromatic, light hop crispness, a bit of musk. Mouthfeel is light, carbonation average to maybe a touch high. Malt is bready with a hint of raw grain. Hops aren't as apparent in the back flavor as the aroma promises, but a mild sulpherous quality starts to set in. Relatively clean finish, slightly gassy. Seems to be around average as a Pils, could use more prickly bite for my tastes.

Just another german pils, fresh crisp, boring and easy to drink, at least the germans have schwarbiers and wheats to be proud of.

Had this from a bottle at home. This beer pours a pale golden colour into the glass, with a large white head. Aroma is Malty with some grassy hints. It also has some hints of grain. This beer has a sweet malty and grassy flavor with some hints of grain. The finish is malty with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

500ml can. I always see these being carted out of liquor stores by the armload by older European gentlemanly types.

This beer pours a clear pale golden yellow colour, with three fingers of thin puffy, foamy eggshell white head, which leaves some sticky drooping Swiss cheese lace around the glass as it slowly subsides.

It smells of grainy pale malt, somewhat metallic in its bearing, and leafy, grassy, and weedy hops - the dead but not-yet-rotting vegetation kind of weediness, in case you were wondering. The taste is sweet bready, kind of stale mixed cereal grain, a hint of old lemon rind, and soapy, dead flower hops.

The carbonation is on the low and generally soft side of things, the body an adequate medium weight, and mostly smooth. It finishes still pretty sweet, the bready, wan cereal malt not swayed overly so by the mild, ineffectual hops, and standard alcohol dryness.

While I can see the appeal of these shiny (and relatively inexpensive) cans on the shelves of yer better (and less so) booze merchants, the contents are mostly bland and middling, if still warm and comforting at the same rate. I'll have to ask the next swarthy Euro fellow I see buying this about that.

Didn't realize I'd already reviewed this. Oh well, why not give it another go anyways.

Bright pale gold in colour. A large, fizzy head only sticks around for a few seconds and doesn't lace. Faint grainy aroma. Grainy and slightly sweet with a faint lemony flavour. Faint bittering hop finish. Lacking in character. Did I already say faint? Light bodied. At least it isn't overcarbonated. Even if it's cold and refreshing, there's still better lawnmower beer than this.

Fizzy pale straw body with 2-3 fingers of fluffy white head the recedes fairly rapidly. Some lace is left behind.

Faint malt and hop aromas. Bread? I just can't pick anything out of this.

Faint grain and skunk flavours. I don't know how, considering this is from a can. Low bitterness, yet that mild bitterness is the most perceptible thing about it. There's an unpleasant mustiness to it. It's extremely bland.

Light bodied, spritzy carbonation. Thin. Watery. Cold. Wet. Boring. And that strange musty taste.

Avoid.

Trying a can of Holsten. The beer pours to a deep clear golden color with a thin head that is essentially dissapates. The smell is typical of a pilsner, light with Saaz type hops. Tthe taste follows most Euro pilsners with a light bitterness and slight malt. Although the carbonation is spot on, the mouthfeel is slightly watery and a little lacking even for a pilsener. Good lawnmower beer but nothing to write home about.

Give the makers of Holsten Premium credit: I don't know how they fit a whole skunk in such a little green bottle!

This beer poured clear and golden into my pilsener glass with a fluffy head that dwindled almost immediately to a soapy ring. A closer inspection brought an unfortunate skunky aroma to my nose — which is too bad, because there were spicy hops and subtle malts that couldn't force their way past it.

The taste is a good balance between the hops and malt, though the overall effect is muted and the taste unremarkable. Fortunately, the skunkiness is really more of an issue for the nose, and not the taste buds.

The carbonation is suitable for the style and this beer finished dry and crisp. An adequate lawnmower beer — if you're willing to pay premium, import prices for one.

500 ml can, $1.99 plus deposit at a BC Liquor Store.

When I was in university, one of my friends dated a German guy, studied German, and drank mainly German beer. I think this was the beer she drank the most. I had it a few times back then, but I haven't had it since.

A: Straw yellow, clear, some carbonation.

S: Lightly grassy, a bit metallic.

T: I was expecting a fairly generic lager taste. While this isn't awful, that generic lager taste would be an improvement. It's drinkable, but I'd never get it again. It's kind of watery, and there's something about it that reminds me a little of apple juice.

F: A bit watery, but the carbonation gives it a pleasant crispness at least.

O: I suppose there's a reason it was only $1.99.

This one comes out a nice golden yellow color with good size white foamy head that lingers nicely and good sticky lacing.
The aroma is of grain, with some lite herbs and overtones of wet grass.
Tastes like stale grass with a little bite and mild herbs with metallic overtones and finish's off with some kinda fruity aftertaste.
Medium mouth with good sparkling carbs and leaves a dryness at the end.
Easy drinking, nothing really special, but goes down good just the same, another one of those beers that go down well on hot days.

It pours a pale golden lager colour with a nice bubbly head that quickly settles down. Nothing drastic, but still alright.

The aroma is dominated by grassy hops and faint sweet maltiness.

The taste is mostly grassy hops with a hint of sweet grain. Bitterness is quite strong in the end, and not well balanced with the malty flavours that were developing. I finished with a kind of buttery flavour.

Overall, not a bad lager, but a bit watery for my tastes. It doesn't really nail all of its flavours and suffers as a result.

Pours a nice straw color with a fluffy white head (which took some effort) that falls away quickly leaving some lace. Smells mostly skunky with some hoppy notes. Flavor is a little sweet but balanced by just enough hops. Nice dry finish. Mouthfeel is pretty creamy. Pretty easy drinking beer, I'd get it again.

Haven't I been to the bottom of this glass before? Nope, no recollection of ever tasting a Holsten premium lager up to this point.
But it seems so familiar.... That's because this is a very plain beer.
The nose is somewhat tinny, but that might be a result of the 500mL can I poured it out of. There is the faintest hint of a sweet grainy aroma upon further inspection, and the unimpressive head made a hasty disappearing act. The taste is light with the slightest touch of hops, the colour a light straw, but this happens to be a very smooth beer, and it goes down very well. I'd drink it again if I reached for it accidently, but would pay closer attention to what I was doing at the beer store after that.

A very very pale beer, quite pale I didnt know it was my urine test bled with water! A tiny shy head that dissapeared quicky. Smell fruity, nothing much, reminded me of macro. A tiny hoppish side nothing particular, nothing to brag about, no character, short and dry.

label states 5% abv and has a green outter ring vice red as the pic shows. best before 02/06

very pale yellow appearance. thin white head fades to a frothy ring above the beer. leaves some lacing on the glass.

good hoppy aroma. very fresh grass on the nose.

taste has an ok level of bitterness up front. sweet maltiness comes through in the middle. finishes quickly as it slides down the back of the throat.

pretty standard german pils, which isnt a bad thing. that bit of hop bitterness is what does it for me.
