Sigma is a dark and strong beer, skillfully balanced between sweet and sour. Sigma is part of the “Omega – Phi – Sigma trilogy” which matures in stainless steel tanks where the Morpheus yeast imparts a refreshing sourness.
Sigma leans closely towards the traditional Flemish Oud Bruin, but is more robust due to its 8% abv.

Beautifully built of the sour brown ilk, the "wild" experiment of Alvine hits home with highly authentic flavor but packing the punch of something more... much, much more.
Nearing ten-percent, the ale pours the rusty, tawny and rustic coloration of browns weaved with reds. Its short-lived and zesty head pushes elements of toast, pecan, crabapple, lime and white wine to the forefront aromas until the flavors set in. A quick coat of steely caramel, peanut skins and toast emerge from the malty underpinnings for a balance that comes very early.
Because what follows is a fast recession of malt sweetness and the quick rise of sour grape, tart green apple, and freshly zested lime for something of a Belgian dubbel that has gone terribly wrong- but in the very best way. Going into finish, an under-ripe berry character merges with mild balsamic for a savory, sour and fleeting sweet sensation.
Its closing arguments are those of relaxes malt and tart acidity that frame the medium-light ale with a slimmer overall sensation. With cherry, bordeaux, and sour cherry resonating in aftertaste, the beer is much more drinkable, refreshing and crisp than any ten-percent beer should. It's simply dangerous.

I had this beer at our local World of Beer after a memorial for a dear friend and hockey buddy.
Poured from a bottle into a tall tulip glass. Dark brown color with a thick effervescent beige head and decent lacing, slightly murky. Smell and taste of tart cherries, figs, raisins, tart apples and some dark chocolate. Wonderfully complex flavors. Good feel. Overall a very nice representation of the style and I would get it again.

Poured from fridge temp. Not a lot of head, which is a bit surprising for Alvinne. I have had quite a few bottle overflow upon opening. Pours a nice dark brown/reddish. Nose is sour grapes, citrus peel, funk, hay. Taste is blueberries, grapes, blackberries, sour candy, wheat, and oak. This is absolutely awesome.

I purchased this bottle at The Bottle Shop in Bruges. I don't know if it is a year round, one off, or seasonal. I picked it out and the personable, knowledgeable employee told me that I made a good choice.
Poured from a 33 CL brown bottle.
Appearance: Dark, hazy, wine-like with almost no head
Aroma: Sour cherry, clove, vinous
Taste: Cherry up front, then notes of chocolate in the finish, lip smacking
Mouthfeel: Low carbonation. Alcohol is hidden.
Overall: I am thoroughly enjoying this and hope I can find more before I leave this beautiful country.
