Cuvée Freddy is the barrel aged version of Sigma. Complex, refined flavours, originating from the tannins of the Bordeaux barrel and the wine that initially filled it create a soft, refreshing sipping beer that blurs the differences between beer and wine.

Bottled Nov 2018
Pours a light fizzy head covering with low retention, poured a ruby chestnut color then dark brown when it thickens
Nose big sweet dark raisin prune fruits, dark sweet molasses and dark malts, very biscuity toasted malt, bread crust, a little vanilla oak and toasted oak notes, brandy soaked raisin, mild sour tart note, mild oxidation port wine like
Taste starts pretty tart, more soured mash malt character, with big biscuity toasted malts, a little molasses sweetness, more dark fruits, raisin, prune, date, mild tart sour fruit, some buttery oak and a little toasted oak, into port wine again between the fruit and aged slight oxidation, flemmy tart finish
Mouth is fuller bod, very little carb, a bit of tart acidity, no real alcohol presence
Overall pretty good

Bottle from Etre.
Hazy dark brown with a small tan head that I had to coax out with a vigorous pour. Jammy chocolate with hints of alcohol on the nose. Tart cherry and light lemon flavor with a hint of funk to round this out.

Pours into a wine glass with ample tan foam, some spotty lace and broken skim. Ever present ring around the edges.
Aroma is a bit oxidized at first but this fades somewhat after a good 15 minutes. Oak, prune, apple butter, black malt, tootsie roll candy.
Mellow feel, very vinous, lightly tart and oaky. Medium bodied, a touch citric, low carbonation. Flavors are hard to pin down, but there is a tart fruitiness like sour grape or underripe berries. Behind that is a grape juice note and some maltiness. This bottle seems pretty well aged, for better or worse.
Overall it’s unique, though it’s no Oerbier Reserva. Could use a bit more complexity like the Sofie version has, and less oxidation.

Pours a dark red-brown color with a small top off beige head that dissolves quickly.
Aroma is of tart raspbeeries, sour cherries, wood and vinegar.
The taste is sour and tart with some slight sweet notes in the flavour.
The flavour has a a lot of rasberries and cherries, the earthy/woody notes makes more presence in the finish along with som dry notes.
Very little carbonation and a medium body.
A nice example of a beerstyle i am not very familiar with.

I’m not going to lie here...this thing smelled bad in the bottle. Way too powerful on the alcohol smell.
However...as we all know...just because the berry doesn’t smell good, doesn’t mean the juice is bad.
Poured like flat coke...everybody says that. Very true. Very little carbonation in the initial taste. Mildlu sour taste. Mild maltiness. Hints of aged oak...I can taste it now versus smelling. The taste is very different from the smell.
If you compare it to other Oud Bruin beers, it’s a slight let down. Definitely something to try, but not something to stock for regular drinking. However, it could all be my weird sense of taste.
