Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma is full of molasses and oak notes, with some roasted malt also thrown in. The flavor is quite a bit different. I get a lot of peat malt notes, as well as some dark brown sugar, toffee and caramel. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

An aggressive pour produces a creamy textured, lightly browned, dark tan colored head. The beer is quite dark, but more a burnt brown than a true black. The aroma is actually quite fruity smelling with a mix of sweet-cherries, raisins, earthy fig and even some prune like notes. On top of the fruit is a fleeting saltiness, a faint though distinct whiskey character, and some definite alcohol that warms my nose as I am smelling this beer. If you give it some time some touches of roast malt lightly accent the nose; burnt grain husk and dark roasted espresso can be noticed at times. The aroma is actually quite interesting, the fruit character that this has quite surprised me and the fact that the whiskey barrel only lightly influenced this beer goes a long way towards making this a balanced aroma.

Somewhat dry tasting, especially considering the expressive fruit aromatics. The beer picks up a sea-like saltiness towards the middle where it is joined by a lightly tart whiskey spiciness that lingers through to the finish. The whiskey seems to accentuate some almost tart fruit notes of cherries and perhaps raisins towards the finish; it is interesting that the bright fruit from the aroma is almost completely missing in the flavor. This is quite light bodied, especially considering its strength, though the alcohol and warming keep this from being anything but a sipping brew. As the beer warms some coffee flavors, toasted malts and burnt acidity become a touch more noticeable.

The whiskey barrel did interesting things to the nose of this beer; it brought out an amazing fruit character. Unfortunately the flavor wasn't nearly so interesting and was really dominated by the barrel influence in the wrong way. Not bad though in the end, even if I was hoping for a bit more finesse.
