Semi-transparent orange body with a thick off-white head that is fueled by the carb.

Fruity and sweet off the bat. Bright citrusy orange, woody, wheaty.

Sweet blood orange flavor with some alcohol heat. Lotta that light fruit BPA ester going on.

Smooth and fairly heavy for the style. Almost creamy mouthfeel and some bubbly carb.

My second cognac barreled beer and I guess that's not the best for imparting spirit flava. Solid beer though.

Part of Alvinne’s Oak Collection and aged 6 months in Calvados barrels that contained Calvados for 10 years and Cognac for 8 years.

Pours a cloudy grapefruit-yellow color with a small and super quick receding mostly white head. Smells of Belgium yeast, slight mustard notes and boozy heat complete the nose. First sip is very unique with mustard dominating the taste then finishing with a strong mustard burn. Bring on a Chicago Dog! Though the mustard taste is there up front it is not “in you Face” and after a few sips and slight pallet adjustment this beer’s uniqueness shines. Very lightly bodied but incredibly well carbonated to the point bubbles do an appreciated tongue dance. The 11% ABV is very well hidden. As this puppy warms oak notes appear that offset and balance well with the mustard seeds. More of the Belgium yeast also make their presence known but they are soft enough to not interfere with the mustard and oak flavors. The additional oak flavors are no match for that beautiful mustard burn finish that is slightly harsh but not at all too harsh. Can you say Masterpiece? I love when a brewery takes an 11% beer throws in Mustard seeds and age that beer in Calvados French oak barrels that also stored Cognac. Is this not what life is all about?

Served from bottle into a Duck-Rabbit stemmed snifter. Poured a hazy yellow with a very minimal off-white head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, honey, dark fruit, alcohol, banana, and caramel. The flavor was of sweet malt, honey, dark fruit, sweet alcohol, subtle wood, grape, banana, and mustard seed. It had a light feel on the palate with mild carbonation. Overall this was a pretty good brew. This one really came into its own as it warmed up to room temperature as a lot of the subtle flavors became more forward and made it much easier to drink. I was really intrigued by this brew due to the barrel treatment, but then I saw it was brewed with mustard seeds as well... How could I say no!? A definite must try for any fan of the style as this was a nice representation of it.

Purchased from K&L Wines for $19.99, 750ml bottle.

Appearance: Golden amber color. A strange opaqueness from a light colored but heavy microscopic sediment floating throughout the beer. Pours a decent head initially with soapy bubbles that disappear quickly.

Smell: Oak, white wine, and brandy. Tart smelling. There’s something else there, but I don't think it's the mustard; maybe it’s vinegar. There's also a hint of honey.

Taste: I like the taste more than I like the smell. The calvados brandy is apparent, as is the oak. I can’t taste the mustard seed. This is good, but not great.

Mouthfeel: Lightly carbonated. You can feel the 11% alchohol - not overpowering, but not hidden either.

Drinkability: This is a decent beer, but a bit tart for my liking.
