Max's. Boskoop grapes from the province of South Holland.

A: Another reddish amber ale, still translucent but with that full brown color. Another small head, wispy and white.

S: The nose is sweet but firm, a solid red aroma - plenty of tannins amonst the sour funkiness. That lemony citrus is sharp, wild, but not overwhelming.

T: The red wine aspect added heft without any residual thickness (see monbazillac). Instead lemony citric tartness and the tannins leave the ale quite dry with a decent pucker factor before the dryness kicks in. The grapes are like a side show, not the primary attraction but good for a brief interlude. The wildness, stronger in the nose, pulls back a bit here, allowing the tannins and dryness to stand out.

M: Sweet and dry, a theme that is oft repeated here. I think my vote goes to the monbazillac variant.

On tap at Max's during their Belgian fest.

The beer pours a dark reddish amber color with fair head retention and lacing. The nose is largely sour, but with some nice underlying wine, black cherry and vanilla. The flavor profile is even better, with impressive complexity. There's a great melange of flavor, which includes sour, wine, vanilla, grapes and light cherry. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a long, wine and sour finish.

Still not my style, but this was a very interesting beer to sample from Alvinne.

On tap at Churchkey for Night of the Living Ales. Called "Morpheus Wild Boskoop Glory"

A dark, amber pour hardly gives way to any head at all. The aroma is of dark fruits, malts, booze, and an underlying funky that really pulls it all together. The taste really reminds me of a sour quad. Booze, grapes and other dark fruits, sour, vinegar, funk. Really all the tastes are very interesting and blend wonderfully. Medium body, carbonation was low. A warming booze feeling closes the beer off. Very, very good. The grapes take this thing over and the booze and sour compliment it.

On-tap at Beachwood Brewing

A: The beer pours a murky reddish amber color with a very small off-white head.

S: You can definitely smell the grapes on this one. There are also some light raspberry notes to it. A decent amount of wood as well as some lemon juice and zest. Overall, sort of a simple aroma.

T: A light oak flavor along with some decent tartness, mostly in the form of lemon. A fair amount of grape flavor as well as just a mild vinegar sourness. A little sweetness of grape juice on the back end.

M: Medium in body with low to medium carbonation.

O: This was just an okay beer. It didn't offend in anyway, but I wouldn't order it again.
