A 330ml bottle with a BB of March 2011, so this is well out of date. Bought ages ago from a Belgian webshop and stored in my garage. No idea what this is going to be like - the last few bottles I've tried from Alvinne have been disappointing. Here goes....

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottle conditioned. A very dark reddish-brown hue, though I can make out some large yeast chunks falling into the glass. Forms a small head of beige foam that lasts for a minute or so before dissipating. Aroma of sour yeastiness with hints of fruit, berries, earthiness, faint chocolate and a whisper of roasted malt. Funky, acidic undertones with a hint of blue cheese. Hmmm....

Tastes of sour fruitiness with hints of funk and a dry finish. Notes of acidic fruit, tart berries, earthy yeast, musty funkiness and faint molasses. Vinous and slightly stale, with a warming whiff of booze in the background. Sour and astringent upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with decent carbonation but a surprisingly thin body for its strength. Dries the palate and leaves an aftertaste of tart fruitiness and sour, earthy yeast.

Really not sure what to make of this one, though I can't say I'm enjoying it much. Surprisingly sour, while the malt has virtually disappeared - it can hardly be discerned in either the aroma or flavour. No hops to speak of either. Quite fruity; almost like acidic wine with a hint of sugar. Some funk, which is fortunately well restrained. I have no idea what the beer style is supposed to be or what the brewer's original intentions were, though obviously the age of the bottle plays into it. Hard to judge, but I reckon this has probably deteriorated over time. Interesting but each sip makes me shudder a little - the remainder is going down the drain. Adios.

330ml bottle.Oversized glass.Enjoyed on nov´11.Dark mahogany in color, reddish brown to the light. Some rings & spooty lacing. Fresh berries to the nose.Bitter upfront followed by sour/acidic fruity flavor. Helpfully slightly flavor of toasted malt provides smooth palate. Cranberry & licorice notes showed in the middle last to the finish. Medium body, medium carbonation.Acid fruit aftertaste.Rich & amazing Imp Stout where 12% ABV is camouflaged by esters. If you really feel thirsty, take your time before, since it is dangerously refreshing.
