On tap @ Bar Mmikkeller in SF.
A- Opaque deep ruby/purple with a very thin film of cream coloured head.
S - Acidic, grapes. Sour cherry, oak, whiskey.
T - Tart. Sour cherries, some vinegar. Hints of charred oak, red wine. As it warms up the red wine qualities really become accentuated.
M - Medium body. Dry and tart. Light carbonation.

Overall a decent beer but maybe not complex enough to what it is billed to be.
It pours a dark, dark brownish red color that really approaches black. The smell is slightly cherry berry with a mix of liquor smells as well with a complex alcohol note, not the greatest thing ever. The taste is a mix of the earthy tartish oud bruin burnt cherry flavor mixed with some more peaty smoky flavors that linger on for a long while after a taste. A lot of alcohol laced berry flavors too that mix in.
The feel is good, decent carbonation, smoke aftertaste. Overall decent but not beer.

On-tap at Local Option. Served in a snifter.
A - Tan foam settles to a thin collar, leaving behind no lacework. Very dark brown, opaque body.
S - Chocolate, whiskey, vinegar, lots of wood, dark fruits, cherries, cola, and a vaguely, earthy, burnt rubber aroma that comes out as the beer warms up.
T - Taste is similar, with mild vinegar, chocolate, whiskey, dark fruits. Thankfully loses the odd plastic & rubber aroma and gets increasingly tart as it warms up.
M - Tannic, dry, medium body, with pleasant carbonation. Not overly boozy even with the whiskey aging and higher ABV.
D - The odd rubber aroma got off-putting after a while, and I was a bit disappointed in general. Apparently Belgian Owl is a single malt, which may explain some of those flavors. Should have tried the the Zinfandel Maledetta I guess.
