Bottle at Thirsty Monk, Asheville, NC
A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a thin collar of beige bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of sour fruits and oak are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has flavors of dark fruits along with lots of oak and hints of malts and vinegar.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and is very tart with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: If you like tartness, this is a really nice beer to sip. I found it to be a lot more drinkable compared to the regular Cuvée Freddy.

750ml bottle. Served in a Teku glass.
Appearance: Pours very dark brown (almost black), with just a small hint of red. Initially poured about 3 fingers of a tan fizzy head that dissipated quickly to a very thin collar and did not leave any lacing. Body is opaque.
Smell: Vinous red grape, dark fruits, sour cherry, green apple, oak, slight vinegar, caramel. There's some lactic sourness as well.
Taste: Chocolate, dark fruit (prunes come to mind), red grape, roasted malt, oak, vinegar, whiskey. Wow, there's a lot going on here.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, dry, tannic. Carbonation bordering on high.
Overall: Very interesting stuff. This is a blended, barrel aged beer that's then further barrel aged in 3 different types of barrels and blended again. This easily could have turned into a muddled mess, but while some of the flavors do clash with one another a bit, it still manages to stay fairly well balanced. It's probably not worth the high price tag, but I'm glad I got to try it once.
